This is to answer lauren88's question. This is a very simple metaphor (or simile, i'm English challenged) for a very, very complex question. You have to back track to the beginning of the verse. The dark womb that wraps and covets is what is called the veil of consciousness..it is what prevents us from knowing the meaning of life, why we're her, and all of these questions from birth. It is what enables us to grow spiritually. This is why it alters understanding. When you realize that you have this obstacle, you can overcome it. They way to do this is to listen to your spirit guides (who take you on their wings). The lightning flashes of insight refer to the idea that enlightenment is not a permanent state, but a series of revelations that compile over time, like flashes of brilliance as we stumble through our ignorance. That being said, the rest should be easy. Pain of division refers to the separation we all received from our creator. We all focus so much on why we were put here. Vayne is telling us not to concentrate on that, but rather concentrate on the real question of how we get back. That is why we are here, to get back. I hope that helped. It could have no relevance to you, but I thought I'd try anyways. |

| Mudvayne – (Per)version of a Truth Lyrics | 20 years ago |

What a great song. This song, like more and more of Mudvayne's songs that I have researched, is shrouded in Hermetic symbolism. On the surface, this song is about what all of you are saying about religion and whatever. On a completely different note, however, the song deals with what is known as the hidden sephira on the tree of life. I think that if they didn't let out that one scream of daath, no one would EVER be the wiser. But, since they stuck that in the particular line they put it in, truth, or the seeking of truth and knowledge, is an illusion. Like seeking the forbidden fruit, we are driven to find out how things work, why we're here, blah blah blah. This hidden sephira, however, is a distraction from the real, undeniable truth that lies beyond. This truth cannot exist for us here, for once we reach that truth (kether), we no longer have reason for being here. |

Hmmmmm.......I might be in the wrong forum, because this seems to be more of an argument about Vayne's status in the music industry. I do like some of the earlier comments about the Golden Dawn, which is likely where Vayne got the idea, though the concepts are not original to the Golden Dawn. The Golden Dawn (i.e. Alexander Crowley, Mathers, Waite, and Israel Regardie) was formed by gifted plagiarists, mostly from Henry Agrippa. Irrelevant as that fact is, the song derives much of its meaning from this system; the band seems to have more than a rudimentary grip of the symbolism, which is likely why the claim that the song is "mysterious" and "allows the listener to find the answers". These are rudimentary concepts in the passing on of occult concepts. Ok, enough b.s. What are the symbols? Well, The Middle Pillar path is nothing more than an energy arousal ritual which involves visualizing oneself larger than the earth gazing into the cosmos. Calms within the eye is refering, once again to this ritual. Deny my shadow has a similar meaning to that of the TOOL song forty six and two (look it up) Much of the symbolism also refers to the use of the tree of life to return to center i.e. the tarot. I can't really give away any more of the answers. One last note before I go... I found that, while reading these comments, this song may be loosely based on the life and attitude of Alexander Crowley. OK, I'm done now. |

This note is neither to anyone in particular, nor is it what I feel that that song means, but here are some interesting things that I noticed about the song. The fisrt item which has yet to be discussed is the fact that the song title is not question, nor is it question?, it is Question! Ths is an exclamatory statement which can be interpreted as some request or, more accurately, an order. The second item is concerning the opinion of solid. One thing that does play in with that theory is that an unseen enemy can be referred to as a ghost, and saying that they are no different than you can mean that they are just pawns like all soldiers. (unless no different than you refers to sweet berries, but this can also be a broken sentence) Sweet berries can be anything. On the afterlife argument, many Ancient dieties and ascended masters are depicted eating berries, grapes, and the like. All that being said, I think the moral of the song lies in the fact that no one here accepts what the other says blindly without question. Question the song, question everything. |
