| Carbon Leaf – Changeless Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this is probably the best graduation song. I'm sure it won't be picked to be our official school song, but it will be *my* graduation song. | |
| Squirrel Nut Zippers – Put A Lid On It Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song always makes me think of the "loose lips sink ships" posters of the 1940s, whether or not that was the intent of the artists. I picture the girl with that fake curly blonde hair and red lips, doing her one girly thing since she got a "man's job," which is gossiping. | |
| Veruca Salt – Volcano Girl Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love the nod to The Beatles. (I told you about Strawberry Field / you know the place where nothing is real & Here's another clue for you all/ The walrus was Paul.) | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Savior Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I love this song - it's very religious to me. (Which is funny, because I'm, y'know, not.) It makes me want to go to church and everything. It's a very positive song, I think. | |
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Easily Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I can feel the anti-war vibes rolling off the song in waves - especially in the lines about Shao Lin. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Soul Meets Body Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I hear this song as a love song. As in, the narrator wants to be with someone in more than a physical way. I also agree with whoever saying that music is where "soul meets body," especially for a musician. The line "if the silence takes you I hope it takes me, too" kinda brings those two things together, I think. |

| The Decemberists – July, July! Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ha. This song will forever remind me of my sophmore year of high school. We all used to walk to Jake's house. Whenever anyone said anything, Jake would say "don't pick on my uncle!" and yes, he was French Canadian. (No idea if he was a bootlegger, though.) ... and I had a "sprightly light majenta" cami, and another friend had a blue-grey one. Go figure. The line about the chicken's ratteling chicken chains gets me every time. |

| Plain White T's – Hey There Delilah Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song reminds me of my friend Baz. (Her screename is "Delilah.") Only she lives in Philly (not NYC) and I don't play guitar. | |
| Brand New – Seventy Times 7 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| All of you blathering about how powerful this song is *cearly* haven't listened to good music. U2 is powerful, John Lennon is powerful, this is some kids emo adventures in high school. I'm not saying it's a bad song, I enjoy it a lot, but it isn't moving or powerful, at least not compared with real music. | |
| U2 – Exit Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I hear the "deeper into black/deeper into white" as either drug use or bipolar disorder - but usually as drug use. | |
| The Black Eyed Peas – My Humps Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I used to kind-of like Black Eyed Peas but ... eh, not so much any more. It's bad enough listening to men sing about women's bodies being their (OUR!) main asset, but to listen to a woman go on about everyone loving her for her body - and her seemingly being OKAY with this? UGH, count me out. The worst part? The damn catchy tune! This song would be 5000x better without the lyrics. |

| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin' Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I like how mellow this song is, it's a great ending to the otherwise excited Californication album. I don't see the drug references, myself, I see instead a young man who just graduated from high school and wants to go somewhere with his friends - away from Nowhereland, and into the "real world." |
|
| Red Hot Chili Peppers – Get On Top Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I like it. I'd have to agree with TrickyRicky's friend - it sounds (to me) like a man picking up a hooker. |
|
| The Killers – Somebody Told Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| One of my buddies pointed this out, and I'm inclinded to agree with her: he was dating a transexual (male to female) without knowing it. One can only assume it was a little irresponsible on the girlfriend's side not to tell him, "oh, by the way, I'm really a guy," but ... | |
| Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Well, when this song first came out, I was six, so I don't remember much. When I first heard it, though, I was in my Lord of the Rings phase, and what I heard in it was Sam talking to Frodo, and Frodo talking to Sam, just as they arrive in Mordor. *geek* Seriously. Everything about knowing what he's gotta do and such, but especially how "and all the roads we have to walk are winding / and all the lights that lead us there are blinding" what with the walking to Mordor and the Phial of Galadriel and such. |
|
| Tori Amos – Father Lucifer Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
> And girls that eat pizza and never gain weight, > Never gain weight, never gain weight... Not sure about this whole song, these lyrics really stand out for some reason, especially with the three of them sining against each other like that ... |
|
| Jack Johnson – Sexy Plexi Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I always got the impression of a girl trying to be pretty - like, that's all she cares about. "Unlike plastic, easier to see through" - she's a total fake "Once you're broken, shape don't matter" - someday she'll break down (emotionally) and nobody will care what she looks like the whole deal about breaking your mind - drugs, maybe? "Quickly quickly grow and then you'll know It is such and awkward show to see" - a young teen girl, trying to be older and prettier, and watching her try so hard is difficult to see, etc. |
