"rough hands" is about a situation the narrator has been through, dealing with a girl that has troubled him. The situation is complicated with him and the girl, because she loves someone else and he is trying to convince her to be with him. "Sometimes love isn't about how much he worships you Or how much you're willing to change to suit them" he tries so hard at 'winning her over' that he is tired and broken, hence the rough hands. i think the background singing is actually "Two people, too damaged, too much, too late." |

I always thought this song was about a guy at a party...and seeing a really radiant girl across the room that was the biggest thing at the party, and then wanting to go up and talk to her. the chorus could be about all the people she's dressed up to impress over the time, but i dont know much. saw them live and this was the best song they did. |
