To me this is about a girl who is young, but she sleeps with a guy because she thinks she loves him, but sex is all he wanted her for. 'Footprints, and fallen leaves' - to me this is about how romantic she'd always imagined love and sex to be, and instead it was somewhat sleazy - 'backseats and motels'... 'there went the world, just one girl' - I interprate that as the guys perspective, and that he has only wanted her for sex and she was just another girl on his list, and he didnt see her beauty, and how amazing she was. |

To me it's about him breaking up with a girl and finding it really difficult and he realises after that he's made the wrong decision and tries to get her back but she's moved on and is over him. 'I just could not understand that you didn't even care I was gone', to me is about her getting over him. I thinkm by the end of the song, the tables have turned and shes in control because he really wants her back because without her he is nothing. |

| To me this about finding that one person who you feel you can be yourself around, and they love you for you, and then you lose them, and nothing compares to them. | |

now i'm not saying this is the meaning of the song, but just a way in which it could be interpreted. It could be seen to be about the September 11th attacks. The first verse could be saying about how the defences of the US are so modern and yet this still happened. He could also be saying that people are trying to stay focused and tell themselves it's not as bad as it really is, but the media will be sure to stir it up. Then he could be saying that he was focused on the wrong thing, and with this attack happening they have lost theyre dignity and power. Second first could be saying you should try and hold it together even when you know how bad everything is. "We should have seen it coming" - No one was prepared and the right precuations were not in place. The main line that sticks out to me is the "It's not life or death it's only business". This could be a sarcastic remark aimed at the media and the capitalist companies who are more worried about the stocks and shares and the trade than the innocent lives lost. Just a thought... Thanks x |
