its a song written to his daughter, i read it on the official ataris website. one thing i dont understand, "I remember waiting for you to call, waiting there to find nothing at all" if he wanted to talk, why didnt he just pick up the phone and call her, after all, he does say in the beginning that his daughter is only 5. |

| The Rocket Summer – Skies So Blue Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
so for those of you who didnt get the song, its about a girl named beth that passed away in november of i think 2002. He is saying that he knows he should be sad that she died, and he hates to admitt it, but hes really happy because her death taught him not to take little things for granted. so now he can enjoy the beautiful views and things that come with life. Vefore she died, him andher had wished it would snow, because it never did since they were in texas. it finally snowed, but after she died, so she never lived to see it. i figured it all out because i was reading the album cover one day and reading his thankyou's in the back of the cover and it says in small print, Beth Dupertis, "skies so blue" is dedicated in the memory of beth. or something like that |

| Sublime – Badfish Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
this song is definately about a drug addiction. bradley uses metaphors. i think badfish refers to a heroin-addict as well as blue whale. grabbing onto the reef refers to doing heroin. When you grab a hold of me Tell me that I'll never be set free But I'm a parasite Creep and crawl, I step into the night (someone is telling him that he's a slave to heroin, he'll never be free if he continues doing it. But he can't help himself, so he sneaks it all the time) Two pints of booze Tell me, are you a bad fish too? Are you a badfish too? Ain't got no money to spend I hope the night would never end (He's talking to his dealer and saying he doesn't have money to buy heroin, but in exchange he has booze. He asks his dealer if he is a "badfish" (druggie) as well, in hopes that his dealer is addicted as well, and knows what it feels like to be addicted to heroin and be without it. ) Lord knows I'm weak Won't somebody get get me off this reef? (Hes asking for someone to help him get off of heroin) Baby, you're a big blue whale Grab the reef when all duck divin' fails I swim, but I wish I never learned The water's too polluted with germs I dive deep when it's ten feet overhead Grab the reef from underneath my bed (Hes talking to someone he does heroin with. grabbing the reef when all duck divin fails means that when brad cant dodge his problems in life on his owns, he turns to heroin. He does heroin, but he wishes he would hsve never experienced it or tried it because its caused him problems. When he needs to get away from life, he grabs the heroin from underneath his bed.) Ain't got no quarrels with God Ain't got no time to grow old Lord knows I'm weak Won't somebody get me off this reef? I got a gun (He does heroin because hes living for the moment, he wants to be at peace with god, but he needs help. he considers suicide to get him out of his addiction) Vertigo22 pretty much got it. just thought id explain it in more detail. bradley nowell, one of the most talented musicians to ever live. it kills me to know that his great songs will only be heard from my sterio and i'll never see him perform live. |
