| Nina Gordon – I Hate Your Way Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I think this song is about a girl who's totally fallen for a guy, but he doesn't care so much for her or maybe not at all. So, she's making a total fool out of herself and she hates it--but she can't seem to help her self. It doesn't matter what people say about her either. She's knows she's being stupid and should leave the guy, but she doesn't care. | |
| Garbage – Wicked Ways Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| She's spent a lot of her life trying to be good, tring to mend her wicked ways, but she just doesn't seem to be able to be good. She tries really hard, but she just keeps going bad. She's even surprised herself by some of the things she's done (done things I never thought I'd do). It helps to be with this guy, but she's afraid of corrupting him. So she tells him to hold on to religion and being good so that she won't turn him wicked (Clutch your pictures of the pope...etc). At the same time, she tries to persuade him to stay with her (Come on, Sugar, let's go out tonight) because, when he leaves, she's miserable (That sinking feeling, when you are leaving...). She's accepted herself as a bad person, but she hasn't given up on him. She's trying to be with him and save him from herself at the same time. | |
| Garbage – Not My Idea Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| In the beginning, she sings about being naive and buying into all the lies around her. But, then she realizes that there's so much that she can do and she can have. And this person (whether it was a boyfriend, friend, mentor) took advantage of her and thusly she takes revenge on them, via burning doen his/her house. Great song. Self-explanatory really. lol. | |
| Anna Nalick – Consider This Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
All right, this happens to be one of my theme songs, so I can tell you all about it. lol. Here we go, in detail! She's a damaged girl, a girl with a past. Sometimes she's okay and sometimes she isn't. Right now, she isn't. (I've tripped again and things are starting to get interesting). She's tripping up again. She's got a lot of insecurities, fueled by people insulting/critiscing her. (My mind is soaked...insecurities). And it seems like she just can't do right. (Purity's no friend of mine). She's always screwing up. Nonetheless, she doesn't want to escape reality (dreaming doesn't do no good) and she doesn't want to hide her problems and pretend that she's okay ('Cause I don't wanna lie...take it and forget it). This is a warning to this guy who wants to be close to her. She's a bit emotionally unstable, so she tends to start a lot of fights ('Cause I'll start another fight) and this guy will just appease her (You'll say it's all all right). But, someday, he won't be able to take it anymore and he'll leave her (I wait for the day when you find I'm too much for you, baby.) And she's saying, if you can accept all this, then ok. But don't try and change me. It's not gonna happen. She likes this guy a lot (You're kinda cool), but she sees that they aren't a good match. Or, at least, she thinks they aren't because she thinks that he can't handle her (But I know better than to break the rules of messin' with a lesson that I'll never learn). Sure, she'll have good days, months even, but the bad ones will always come back around (I'll go from bad to worse and later back to better) and during the bad ones, she'll probably just hurt him and be hurt by him (But I'll never better bridges that I'm bent to burn). |

| Anna Nalick – Bleed Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
She was in a relationship with this guy and loved him very much, but he treated her badly. So, she broke it off. (Well, it's been almost a year to the moment when I finally realized it was over and love wasn't good enough of a reason for me to stay). The guy is bitter about it and insults her as some form of revenge for dumping him. (Force your insults under the table) But, she won't let him get to her. She takes it all in stride and as time goes by, it hurts less and less. Finally, they don't hurt anymore. (And the edge of your sword isn't sharp enough for me to bleed). Overall, it's about getting out of a bad relationship and learning how to move on. It's brilliant. |

| Anna Nalick – In The Rough Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| She's definitely referring to herself when she talks about diamonds. This song is about her being in a relationship with this guy, but he treats her badly and thusly she dump him. The guy tries toconvince her that he's changed and know's better (Now you say you know all you did not know before), but she doesn't believe him. Better yet, she's finding out that she's better off without him. She lets him go and has hope that someday, she'll find real love. | |
| Katy Rose – Lemon Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Overall, this song is about trying to deal with pain. Katy goes through several self-destrustive methods to try and do so: 1) Cutting/ Self-Abuse: So hurting here is where I belong // Blood on my hands to stay strong // Beat me instead of them // 2) Anorexia: And starving hurts the soul when you're hungry for some love. 3) Bulimia: I can't throw up / I don't think I even want to try // (Self-induced vomiting is often triggered by emotional stress, not the fear of gaining weight. The act of throwing up is very violent and the person often says they feel like they've "purged" themselves of all of the bad things inside them.) It's one of my favorite songs of hers! ^_^ |

| Nickelback – Savin' Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I don't think this is necessarily about suicide, but I think that the guy is obviously desperate for some help. I think "standing on the ledge of the eighteenth story" is metaphorical, like, he feels like he's on the edge of sanity, life, hope, everything and he's about ready to just give up. But, he still holds a little hope and he's calling out to this girl, asking her, "Am I worth saving? Am I salvageable?" He wants her to tell him to hold on and that he IS worth saving. He's hoping that he can start over and that she'll show him the way until he can walk on his own by her side. | |
| Anna Nalick – In My Head Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think it's about someone she loves and once had a relationship with. And thuogh she doesn't see them anymore, she knows they hear her songs and she knows they think the same things she does. And this guy is so important to her that he's become the voice in her head, encouraging her to go on. And the make believe is that someday they'll be together again. Or, another theory that I have is that the person she's talking about is a guy that she's made up in her head. She's convinced herself that somewhere out there is a guy waiting for her. You know, like a soul mate. |

| Cake – Short Skirt/Long Jacket Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think the song is all about finding a girl who's more than a piece of meat. He's saying he wants a girl who can take care of herself, a girl who's mature and financially independent. He wants a girl who is self-sufficient and sensible. I think the short skirt/long jacket is quite opposite of a prostitute. I think he means he wants a girl who's sexy (short skirt), but not a slut (long jacket). She's dressing attractively and showing a little skin without looking like a cheap whore and practically baring all. | |
| Daniel Bedingfield – If You're Not The One Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is absolutely beautiful. I think it's about a guy who's just been dumped by a girl. He loves her so much that he can't imagine life without her by his side. I love the chorus because it's so sad. It seems to me like he's running away from her because she dumped him and he's falling apart. They're made for each other, he just knows it! | |
| Vanessa Carlton – More Than Wanted Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is actually called "Wanted" by the way. And it's already on the list. Someone messed up the title. I have the sheet music for the first CD "Be Not Nobody" and that's how it's listed, if you need verification. | |
| Keane – This Is the Last Time Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| He's in a relationship with a girl, but she's always lying to him. And he knows that she's lying, but he pretends he doesn't know because he wants to be with her. Now he's saying that this is the last time that she falls on him. This is the last time he welcomes her with open arms. And he doesn't care that she's lying and falling back on him because he loves her. But, he knows it's bad and he needs to let her go. He can't keep going on like this. | |
| Usher – U Remind Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is a bit difficult to explain. He falls for this girl and then she treats him badly. She uses him and cheats on him. A ways down the road, she comes crawling back and she's changed. He realizes that she's changed and is a whole different person now, but she reminds him too much of the girl she used to be. He can't forget the way she hurt him. | |
| Katy Rose – I Like Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
FIrst of all, vanessarox_09, it IS "and see how things could have GONE". Check HER website: http://www.katyrose.net/ This song is about her being in a bad relationship. She really likes this guy, but he's using her. "how I could be confused right after being used". But she's drawn to him and she can't get him out of her head. She doesn't want to leave him, so she keeps convincing herself that he'll turn into a good guy. He'll turn into something she likes. |
|
| Katy Rose – Catch My Fall Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I don't like the scream because it's annoying and hurts my ears. But I love the lyrics. What she means by "And I'll see if you catch my fall" is, she's testing someone. She's seeing if this person will catch her if she falls. She's seeing if they're gonna be there when she needs them, no matter what she does. She's testing her boundaries. | |
| Evanescence – Imaginary (Fallen version) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I can really relate to this one. It's about slipping away in your mind to a fantasy world of your own creation. Reality can be so stressful and depressing that sometimes it helps to just stop, close your eyes, and pretend you're somewhere else, somewhere peaceful. | |
| Evanescence – Hello Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is about disassociation. When you disassociate, you draw yourself inside your mind and the rest of the world fades away. "I'm your mind, living for you so you can hide." Cl;early, the girl has been through some kind of trauma or abuse and now she's catatonic or borderlining on it. She's not dead because she says "Hello, I'm still here, all that's left of yesterday." She's still in there, somewhere. But she's pulled inside herself to hide from the outside world and the pain or suffering she's been through/is going through. At least, that's my opinion. But I've read a few comments about it being about a sister who died...so I'm not sure. |

| Lindsay Lohan – First Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Ummm, sfpasssm, that's not what she means. She means that she wants to come first in his life, be his top priority (at least as far as girls go). Jealousy is born of insecurity. We fear that someone better will come alone and take what's ours. I love this song because it's ok to be jealous. I mean, you gotta draw a line somewhere, but a little jealousy is perfectly natural, even for girls. | |
| Sarah McLachlan – Full Of Grace Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Oddly enough, the first time I heard this song was while watching Buffy. It fit beautifully. This song is all about being a relationship with someone and loving them, but not loving them the way you used to. "I know I could love you much better than this." You want to love them the way you should, but you don't. So you leave them, knowing that "It's better this way" because you don't truly love them anymore. It's faded. | |
| Sarah McLachlan – Fallen Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is about being at a time in your life where you've hit rock bottom, as "mrsdarthvader" put it. You've screwed up and you keep screwing up and it seems like you can't do anything right. You feel like you couldn't sink any lower. It's a really cruddy feeling and we've all been there. I think that's one of the reasons people love this song so much. EVeryone can relate to it. | |
| Vanessa Carlton – Unsung Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It's about a girl who's in love, but she's always criticized by her boyfriend. And she's constantly trying to meet his standards and failing. She keeps trying to please him and be what he wants, but she realizes that she's losing her self. The cost is her identity. | |
| Vanessa Carlton – More Than Wanted Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It's about a girl who thinks she's found the love of her life, but she realizes he's too shallow to really love or really appreciate her. She is so much more than he could ever love or appreciate. | |
| Britney Spears – Shadow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It's about a girl who's in love with this guy. He wants her, but only on the shallow level of hooking up. She wants him to be more, to be there, to love her, but he won't. He doesn't really care about her. She wants so badly for him to be more, but she can't keep him. She'll never really have him. | |
| Katy Rose – Because I Can Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
It's about escaping from reality into some fantasy world. The real world is full of tragedy and pain and she longs for happiness. She closes her eyes and dreams, day or night, taking herself to her fantasy world, but she can't stay forever. She keeps getting pulled back into reality. Eventually it comes to the point where she doesn't know what's real and what's not anymore. She feels like an outsider in her own body. She looks at her reflection and doesn't recognize herself. She sees someone else. |
|
| Katy Rose – Glow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Overall, the song is about a bad boyfriend, I think. He scares her, possibly because he abuses her or possibly another reason, but she loves him all the same. And he says he's always going to be around and it sounds lovely, but she knows he's lying. She feels like the only way anyone will pay attention to her is if something's wrong and it hurts. But, no matter what they do she's going to stay strong and be happy. She won't let them drag her down. The girl she sees is herself. She's angry and hurt so she makes herself feel better by throwing herself into fruitless relationships. How she lost her purity is sketchy. It might be rape, but it could be that she was so desparate to be loved that she consented to sex to make sure that she wouldn't be left alone. She's been hurt over and over, but she won't let it get her down. She's figuring out that only she can put herself back together. Constantly criticized, she has to stay strong and believe in herself. It's the only way she'll survive. |

| Katy Rose – Lemon Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
They've clipped my wings again / tore them apart and then / left me / No use to fly away to / my yesterday / of freedom The first part is all about her freedom being taken away. And all she can do is remember the way it used to be, but she tries not to because it hurts her to think of the way things could be. My eyes died back that day / seeing the hurt I may have done / Beat me instead of them / pain is my only zen / of fun And here she hurt someone and lost her innocence. She's torn up with guilt and the only way to get by is to hurt herself. I'll go where secrets are sold / where roses unfold / I'll sleep as time goes by I think this part is about her contemplating suicide. So hurting here is where I belong dreaming a song / blood on my hands to stay strong / The flowers in the graveyard are all gone I don't belong / there is no right to heal the wrong / soup's on hot feelin' like a do or die / I can't throw up don't think i even want to try I think the blood on her hands is her own and she wants to pay penance for what she's done, but she can't. And the guilt makes her feel sick, but she doesn't want to throw up because she feels too guilty about what she did. You still can't make me cry / you've pinned this butterfly / down / My fire's burning out / kill my flame without / a frown / And starving hurts the soul / when you're hungry for / some love / So if I close my eyes / I can really fly / above And that part is to someone who's hurt her, the one who took her freedom, her happiness away. And they don't regret it at all. They don't care. She feels like no one loves her, but when she sleeps, she dreams and is happy again. |

| Vanessa Carlton – Sway Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The verses can be a bit confusing, but the chorus and the bridge really convey the meaning of the song. She's in a relationship with a guy and she knows that he's lying to her, but she wants him to lie because he's telling her what she wants to hear. She doesn't care that he's lying because he makes her happy. Ignorance is bliss. She makes herself believe him. She makes herself fall for him. My favorite line is probably: "I'll fall under the spell you cast as you let me down". She knows he's going to lie and disappoint her, but she's convinced herself that she needs him to be happy, so she smiles and pretends that everything's ok. |

| Vanessa Carlton – Paradise Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This song is about a choice, specifically a wrong one. It's not necessarily clear what it is, but she's given in to something wrong. I can see the abusive angle fitting, but I'll go with a more generic analyzation. I'd say it's about some kind of illusion. She's in a situation in her life that makes her happy, but it isn't right. And she's had to make a great sacrifice to stay where she is. She knows what she's doing is wrong (whether it's staying in an abusive relationship, drinking, staying in a relationship she knows is wrong) and she keeps telling herself that tomorrow she'll do the right thing. Tomorrow she'll give up her "paradise", whatever it may be. She just wants one more day to be happy. The second verse is particularly interesting to me. I think the first line "As darkness quickly steals the light that shined within her eyes" means that this situation, her paradise, is corrupting her. She's losing her innocence, her integrity, her ethics, etc. "She slowly swallows all her fear and soothes her mind with lies" mean that she's afraid of what it's doing to her, but she keeps lying to herself and saying that she's going to give it up. "All she wants and all she needs are reasons to survive" I take to mean as she's lost hope. This situation is her will to live. WIthout it, she has nothing. "A day in which the sun will take her artificial light, her light". This line is so clear to me. This is what she's dreading. Her artificial light is her paradise. It's an illusion, but she likes her illusion. She doesn't want the real thing, the sun. She's happy the way she is. The only thing tha makes her unhappy is the sickening dread that it can't last. In the end, she's still living in her paradise. She keeps telling herself that she's going to do the right thing and give it up...tomorrow. She just wants one more day. Always one more day... |

| Vanessa Carlton – Rinse Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The song's meaning is so clear. It's about obsessive love. The girl is obsessed with this guy. You can catch that clearly in the first verse, particularly with the lines: "She'd do anything to sparkle in his eye. She would suffer; she would fight and compromise". She's desparate to have him. But, in the same token, she know's it's wrong. She knows what she feels isn't really love. So she tries to make herself stop, but she can't. The bridge is one of my favorite parts because it's the turning point in the song. She's choosing to do the right thing and give him up. But she almost regrets it, because she knows that he's not going to chase her. And so she ends up all alone, still feeling the exact same way as she did before. She's still obsessed with him and it's tearing her apart. Those are my thoughts. Take 'em or leave 'em. |
