| My Chemical Romance – Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough for the Two of Us Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Has anyone else noticed how the intro to this sounds similar to the Buffy theme? Makes sense considering they say they're inspired by movies and television... I love the big power chords with the sneaky little tune hidden in the music. And then Gerards vocals layered over the top jsut pull it all together and it's amazing. As for what it means, I think it's someone trying to signal the end of a relationship that has become self destructive, but he's struggling because he does still care about her and wants to be a part of her life... |

| R.E.M. – Daysleeper Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i like to think this songs about a night-shift worker and how society needs people like them to function, but they are largely ignored. This Daysleeper doesnt seem to see anyone at all on a regular basis and its almost as if he's living in a completely different, deserted world to the people that he works for. I think it also shows how we need others to help us feel 'normal', in that this person has no relationships and so theres no particular distinction between being asleep and awake: both are mundane and lonely. This is almost like R.E.M's way of paying homage to those people and showing them that they haven't been entirely forgotten A tale of tragic beauty, remember that while you're sleeping tonight these people will be on their way to work. |

| The Libertines – Up The Bracket Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I like to think that after a night on the town two men have come over to him and asked him for a girls address. Unlucky for him he has a liking for the girl and shows them the V n pisses off. They chase him and aren't best pleased so he tries to make conversation ... and he gets a swift punch in the throat. Meanwhile the girl is completely unaware that any of this is going on, meaning that she's in another world. However, the bloke that wouldn't give up her address is a decent kinda chap, unlike the two blokes, meaning that he's in another kinda world to the two men ... because he "was so bold" and didn't take the money they would be a perfect couple. Quite a downbeat on the ending as it doesn't sound like they're gonna get together, she probably doesn't realise he likes her the thing with the Krays is pretty interesting. Maybe they just wanted to show that even the area has a bit of a dodgy history to it |
