I can't beleive I like a song that's completely about wasting your time on Grand Theft Auto. Genius! -Don't really see any reference to drug taking. |

| Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males – Babysitters of the World Unite! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"To where the black crew and the big city reefs" Who in their right mind would think that they are the actual lyrics? So much of it is wrong. How can I update it? hararch24 hit it spot on I think. Except I'll expand on the babysitter reference a bit: It is a metaphor for innocence and the original feeling of love between two people. They get home and can either choose to wake the metaphorical babysitter from her dream of the first fruits of their love, or they can let the dream continue. |

Few ideas about this one but havn't really gathered them together coherently yet. Also, It's "Loom" not "Doom". How the hell could a guitar be an "Adolescent doom"? |

Also agree with warphase. I'll just add that he started out with good intentions. He just wanted to give himself and his partner a good quality of life. Now he realises what he has become "I wanted to be your Superman but I turned out such a jerk". I think it is saying that increasingly more people are turning into the mobile headset wearing, frappucino drinking corporates. It is becoming what is expected. If you ask anyone they will say that money is not the most important thing in their life. But society is dictating it so that it has to be. It seems that it will just get worse as well. I have no real answer for it. |

| Beirut – Postcards from Italy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If you like the horns in Beirut's stuff check ot Boban Markovic. Apparently a huge inspiration of their sound. GYpsey trumpet stuff. It's great. All of Beirut's stuff reminds me of Europe during the cold war. The period and region I am most interested in. Great music to read John LeCare books to. | |
| Beirut – After the Curtain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To me. Given Beirut's fascination with Easter European music, there many references to Europe and the cold war the curtain mentioned is deffinatley the iron curtain seperating the east and the west during the cold war. To me it's asking questions about the state of the world after the supposed end of the cold war. It deffinatley is a very broad question. However this makes me think of the way that all governments use fear as the catalyst to drive their policies. During the cold war they had the fear created by the soviet union. Now they have the fear created by terrorism. If I was saying these lines I would be asking whether we will ever change. Wether we will stop reacting fearfully and choose rather to risk some of our own self rightious pride and have a more open and embracing foreign policy. |

| Bright Eyes – Out on the Weekend (Neil Young cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this one line sums it all up "..Can't relate to joy..". My favourite line in a song. | |

| Leonard Cohen – I'm Your Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To me this song is deeper than just a love song or the token of someone's commitment. I see this as someone who is obsessive and forceful over a relationship. Who will do anything not to be alone. He is saying he will be whatever she needs, knowing full well that the promises he makes in the long run he can't keep "I've been running through these promises to you, That I made and I could not keep". As I'm writing this I am trying to understand if that still is love. I think it might be but it's not a relationship. I guess I'm saying this because I think he's not singing to one particular person. I think he's singing it to every female he could ever possibly be with. He's a desperate romantic, wearing any kind of mask he has to to get the love he needs. I'm just saying this from personal experience. I could be completly wrong though. |
