| naughteragain, yes, I later found out that kezz was absolutely right and Suzanne really did mean this as a retelling of the story from the female perspective. And still while I think it's an interesting fact and I admire Suzanne for her approaching such subjects and shining a different light on them. I think that still the importance and brilliance of this song lie in the emotion and the way people can relate to it. In the end it kind of seems that the myth is yet another creative means for her. My opinion is to focus more on the lyrics of her song, but still recognise and give credit to what exactly she was inspired by. Afterall, she is a true artist, one that does not get tangled up in her influences, but instead she uses them to create her own art. | |

I think this song is pretty straight-forward. It's about how sometimes words seem overrated and clumsy when you're in love. It doesn't feel right talking. Silence connects the two people better than words. Words could never describe the way they feel. I adore the lines: "I'd like to meet you In a timeless, placeless place Somewhere out of context And beyond all consequences" If you've ever been in love or infatuated with someone, you'll get that feeling when you want to leave the place and people, the contex in which the relationship is at the moment, and just be with that person alone without the feeling of a given time peroid at the end of which you have to part. |

| Thank you so much dolfan. It's such a helpful website. And it's great to learn what she says about the different songs. | |

| I don't think it's exactly "from the persepective of Calypso". I think it's more the writer comparing herself to Calypso. Comparing a relationship she had with the myth of Calypso and Odysseus that kezz so wonderfully told. It's about someone who you love that doesn't love you back anymore, she lets him go and "it's a lonely time ahead". But does anyone else get the feeling that she's not so much doing it for herself, but she's doing it for him. She knows she won't be happy without him, because she lives alone and the one chance she had of love is now gone. | |

I think this is a very difficult song to understand. Maybe that's why no one has commented on it yet. I thought I'd make a few suggestions. Could it be about orphans - "a child who had been left alone at birth"??? The blood ties that they long to find and how they search for common features to recognize themselves in someone. Could it be also about death? Maybe the orphan dies on the street where he was "left to fend and taught to fight". The reason I am suggesting death is the past tenses throughout the song and the lines "Getting colder as the pictures go". But then there's the verse: "One body split and passed along the line From the shoulder to the hip I know these bones as being mine And the curving of the lip" I don't quite know what to make of it. I think that the song deserves some attention and more discussion. It would be great to understand it more. |

It's interesting to learn that it's about Kurt. I never knew that. However, I think that anyone who has been feeling missunderstood and felt the horrible feeling of being manipulated can relate to this song. It's absolutely a gorgeous song. Can anyone desifer the lines: "This is no direction, prepare for the city, angels turn on heaven's light." I am really puzzled as to what their meaning is. thanks. |

| I think the song is about the way someone makes her feel. She is probably in love with that person and she compares herself to something so small, like a marble in his pocket. He has control over her because of the way he makes her feel. The part where she sings about her being thrown against the sky and she's raining down in pieces is sort of like the beautiful feeling of being in love. It's a love song in my opinion and it's beautiful. | |
