Hahaha, I first heard it on Futurama too!! It was on the sewer mutant episode where Leela found her parents. The song itself was playing with the flashbacks of Leela growing up and her parents helping her out. I love the song. |

I love the very last part. "Face down in the dirt. She says 'this doesn't hurt', she says 'I finally had enough..' |

| Third Eye Blind – Company Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It's about the stereotypes attached to drug users and friends of drug users. He seems depressed and he's definitely self-injuring: "Little cuts on your wrist to try and get back the feeling". (SM and SI are way different, just so you know). He's sick and he's self medicating to escape it: "cause anything's better than this". People assume drug users are just losers, but in reality most of them are really sick. The "bad company" is scared to reconnect with old friends for fear of being rejected, because of the way everyone might view the friend. | |

Like the others have said, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he is seeing such awful things and the drugs make him see another side of it all. I used to never wear my contacts because everything was so much prettier without them in. I couldn't see all the trash in a field and just about any other thing I didn't want to see. This really says something about me and the rest of the human race heh. |

Hahahah, yeah. This song DEFINITELY reminds me of Myspace. "I'll write your name upon my chest" Those chicks who post pics of their boyfriend's name written on their boob. Yeahhh. |

I think the whole "Give me an hour and I'll give you your dreams" line is sort've a tongue-in-cheek remark, but she really means the travel time to where ever it is they are running away to is just an hour more. *shrug* |

Woo, first comment. I honestly have no idea what this song means, but "disco clouds" sounds like fog from a dry ice machine in a club maybe? It kind of sounds like he danced with some chick at a club and he's infatuated with her ("Can't get rid of your feeling"). She seems to be more dominant than him and he's loving it. As he's dancing with her, he knows he's going to want to remember her and imagine that they'll be together forever ("And the days we’ve taken all for granted now are the days I cannot wait to pretend again and again. We could last forever.") so he wants her get out from behind the "disco clouds" (dry ice machine fog??) so he can remember her face. I am probably way off. But oh well. |

| Thank you Halo Ape, you're exactly right. I was going to say that. Those lines always remind me of Romeo & Juliet, where Romeo swears by the moon, and Juliet goes on and on about the "inconstant moon" and how it's jealous of the sun because it's pale in comparison.... blah blah blah, sorry, trying to remember what she said off the top of my head. Good job, buddy. | |

Ahhhhhhhhh! I like kefr617's interpretation of the "subtracting pain by ounces" line the most :) I must applaud that. I never thought of it. Well done. |

| Interpol – Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Joefox has got it RIGHT ON. I have just a little more to add to that. I think that “Stella” was a beautiful woman, who was either a prostitute, or just really easy. At any rate, I have a feeling Stella is way insecure (the first verse about everyone staring at her…. ) and needs sex to feel loved. He was in love with her and she couldn’t see it, she just kept on sleeping around - or doing her job, depending on how you look at it. This upset him because he sees that as below her. She’s too good to be whoring herself around. He sounds really manic-depressive about his love for her. He did drown her. To me, at least, it seems like he is almost joking about the irony of her “going down”, when she went down on him as compared to when she drowned(“she went down down down there into the sea she went down down down there down there for me.”) Now he feels like he saved her from her own promiscuity (“she is alright, but she can’t come out tonight, she broke away”.). Just what I think.... no matter. I think most of you have it about right anyhow. |
