Damien Rice – Volcano Lyrics 20 years ago
this song reminds me of an ex-boyfriend. yes, just like everyone else, it reminds me of an ex-boyfriend. only unlike some people, this fits him to a tee. when i started a relationship with this kid, he was a no one. i was his first and only serious relationship. we dated for over a year, very seriously. i was only 13 (he was 15) when we started dating. i was 15 (he was 17) when we broke up. he ended the relationship, making up a pitiful excuse about joining the army. then, this kid became a whore in my eyes. he would fuck around with my mind when my emotions were still fragile. he would say he was coming over to give me a gift, but he would come with a condom. what was i to do but give in. i was nothing to him in the end but a sex toy. something to keep the juices flowing. from that time until this year (a year later) he has had sex with 40 different girls. he brags about it on occasion. some of these girls are my friends. he finds joy in knowing that the girls get attached to him when he just wants to fuck them. then he uses his military excuse and moves on to the next victim.
he is a piece of shit.

R.E.M. – Losing My Religion Lyrics 20 years ago
i think it's just simply what the majority of you have said: this guy is obsessed with a girl. maybe she's leading him on. maybe not. but either way, he's obsessed with her and she wants nothing to do with him.

"Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me

- he's trying to convince himself that there's more to life than her

The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up"

- but obviously it's not working, because he's doing EVERYTHING for her, but still she seems distant. he can't believe that he just admitted that to himself. he's hurting again now.

"That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much"

- he's alone (metaphor for in a corner) and he's getting so upset by this girl that he's making a real case of himself. he's losing his temper ("losing my religion") because he's getting so mad and frustrated over this girl. he doesn't know if he can go on anymore. once again, he can't believe he admitted that to himself.

"Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions"

- it's hard for him to tell her things. it's hard for him to tell her how much he's in love with her because he doesn't want to say too much and drive her away.

"Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up"

- self-explanatory. he can't believe he just admitted to himself that he's like a "lost and blinded fool".

...and the rest is obvious and repetitive.

Damien Rice – We Kill Lyrics 20 years ago
obviously this song is about tearing each other apart by "switching around" to different lovers. everyone wants something better. no one is happy.
