| Miike Snow – Animal Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I interpret this song as dealing with infidelities. He faces many uncertainties in life and like most people; he looks at life’s different angles to full those voids (big dreams, money, sex) he feels within himself. He tries to be faithful to the person he is with, but he can’t contain his animalistic urges. He isn’t tied to any single person; he is free, like an animal. | |
| The Maine – The Way We Talk Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think that this song has lots of different interpretations, many of which have been mentioned. One that I think could also be a possibility is the lead singer singing about dealing with the girlfriend/love interest of a good friend and his opinion on the matter. He makes it clear that she's beautiful, but comes with a reputation. He sees his friend falling for this predictable girl who will probably fake her way through the relationship until she's used him to her benefit and then will break his heart. I took they lyrics "i have a long list of things to say but i'll leave it at you amaze me." to have a negative conotation. There is a lot that the singer feels about the situtation but because his friend's investment he is trying to be cordial. His friend will learn the hard way the truth about this girl. | |
| Kyle Andrews – Your Tester Bunny Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I get a general sense of a high school-esque feeling from the lyrics. I think that Andrews is singing about an infatuation he has with a girl. There isn't any indication that this is a friendship/relationship or just an acquintance, but the feelings are there regardless. 'i can't believe you talk to me pinch me im dreaming i fell asleep, i fell asleep' I can picture this unnoticed sixteen-year old boy dreaming about a blue jeaned girl who has no idea he exists. Some of the terminology is used in the song also contributes to my high school image. The lunch lady reference, written name of bathroom wall, neighbor's new car etc. The loneliness references are strung through out the entire song. Not standing out in a crowd, melting away into oblivion. Writing his own name on the wall to reaffirm, if only to himself, his own tangiable existence. The 'I fell asleep' lyrics make me think that what he feels for this person is one sided and unknown to the other person. He lives in a world where he is ultimately obsolete and dreams of making more of a statement, like wearing a dress to school. Anything to get a reaction, to prove to others that he is alive. This is a very heartfelt stirring song...so good! |

| Bon Iver – Blood Bank Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
After reading the pregnancy comment i began to think that that could be a possiblitiy.... That secret that you knew But don't know how to tell It fucks with your honor And it teases your head But you know that its good girl Cos its running you with red i interpreted this as keeping a secret that you are unable to share with anyone. Its a big secret that could impact your situation that may be very fragile and precise in what way its received and dependant upon who is told. It makes you question yourself and plays with you. But the person keeping the secret must be brave for someone who is also dealing with the circumstances. Like possibly a secret pregnancy between two people. And because he cares for this girl, no matter his fears and concerns, he reassures her. The bit about red could be interpreted literally, as in the color of blood, or as an subjective element such as an emotion or reaction. You said "'aint this just like the present To be showing up like this" AS a moon waned to crescent calling pregnancy a present as in a gift. the irony being that this 'present' was unexpected. Like maybe it would have been more appreciated in time. The moon is sometimes used as a reference to being pregnant, growing bigger etc., so the waning moon could signify that this unplanned pregnancy has ended, meaning the pregnancy failed or was terminated or accepted. And whichever way the couple kisses either in sadness or loss or possibly in relief. That secret that we know That we don't know how to tell I'm in love with your honor I'm in love with your cheeks What's that noise up the stairs babe? Is that Christmas morning creaks? We started to kiss These next lines show that this indeed about a partnership and shared secret by the inclusion of WE. Its a full circle from beginning to end. At first the first person narrative was dealing with all these questions alone. But now they still have this dilemma but because they're in love it'll all work out. The mention of noise upstairs could be ensuing children, especially with the reference to Christmas which has such a youthful association. |

| Patrick Watson – The Great Escape Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Such a hauntingly beautiful song. I think it’s about hitting rock bottom, the total despair of the situation. After listening to it what feels like hundreds of times, I think that the underlying meaning is the “great escape”; suicide. The ultimate escape. “Gets in his car and drives away Far from all the things that we are Puts on a smile and breaths it in and breaths it out He says bye-bye, bye to all of the noise” that is clearly about asphyxiating one’s self, again, escaping. It shows the raw emoting of the pain that makes escaping look like a positive. So sad. |

| The Killers – When You Were Young Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i love how they always talk about 'the place where you used to live' on here and smile like you mean it. i think that goes back to a time when everything was safe and predictably good like a time of innocents. I love that the girl is waiting on some beautiful boy while in her heartache. I think it refers to how appearances can be decieving 'he dosen't look a thing like jesus' but he is similar to her dreams from when she was young. The video has confused my perception of the song however... | |
| Aqueduct – The Suggestion Box Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i thinks it's about a person who is so in love with someone that treats them so badly. he knows in his heart he deserves better but its hard. the person is unsupportive and disconcerned with the treatment of the other person and leaving the unrequitted to scream for their love, somthing that the other person claims that they would never do, only because they love them. | |
| Turin Brakes – Ether Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| i havent heard this song for about three years and i just heard it for the first time and was instantly transported back in time to when iwas obsessed with it. my best friend had been the driver of a deadly car accident. i was at the beach in california for 2 months and everyday i lay at the sun-drenched beach listening to this on repeat. it complimented my inner feelings of feeling hopelessly lost and confused and total desperation. it represents everything i don't know...an endless abyss."you can't take a photograph of it at night...through everything i've ever been through before" it signifes one of my darkest moments. its the ultimate contridiction like being lonley while surrounded by friends. I loveit. | |
| Ben Harper – Happy Everafter in Your Eyes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the promise of forever and the fairy tale ending of happily ever after. he promises the moon, the stars, everything to see her expereincing the happily ever after. | |
| Rocky Votolato – White Daisy Passing Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| love it. i really like m/rockthecasbahm/'s thought on getting over someone, that could relate to it as well. i think it is about enjoying the moment, living life for all that it is and appreciating each detail as it happens. its so sad how much sweeter life is when we reflect back on our memories instead of while we are going through the emotions. | |
| Rachael Yamagata – Worn Me Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| for me this is about going to the ends of the earth to please someone you can truly never have because they (still) love either another person or an ex. you kill yourself comparing the other person to yourself, sacerfice your worth in order to please them but it ll never be enough | |
| Stars – Heart Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
the person is willing to do whatever it takes to please the other person but no matter how much they do, it will never be enough. i also think its about falling back into old routiens and patterns with an ex love yet the patterns have changed, its the same person but time has changed them.'You fall back into where you started Make up words to songs you used to know' you dont really know them in the ways you used to. this song is nostalgic and wistful. |

| Stars – The Big Fight Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this is clearly about a break up with strings attached. 'he dosen't want her but he just wont let her go' its catch 22. cant live with her cant live without/let go of her. i also think the break up is due to cheating and or lying 'how could you do it i couldn't say years built on sand june until may'. everything they had was a lie all the time and energy spent. they both still have feelings for eachother but its doomed. | |

| Iron & Wine – Promising Light Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i definately think this is a song of yearning and regret. he's remembering what he had, all the times he ran away from love"i was the jerk who preferred the seato tussling in the waves". now he cant stop thinking about their lost love and how he regrets now fully apprecaiting what he had. he now has the freedom he wanted at the time, but now that coveted freedom seems inconsequential and tarnished. i love how the lyrics are seemingly simple yet so complex and layered with meaning. | |
| Mojave 3 – In Love With A View Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i agree with tubesocks, i also think he had built up a wismicle romance between him and a girl, and about the realization that its not tangible. i love the desperation. | |
| Bloc Party – This Modern Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i think its about modern romance. holding your true self/feelings back trying not to care because its all about being detached and permisquis these days. the only time you are able to see your lover, you just 'throw your arms around me'. its all about being together physically but not emotionally and humans generally need more, so its killing him and wasting his time. | |
| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i think that it could be possibly be an ex/old girlfriend that he realizes he still has feelings for. he regrets that he let himself fall for her because'it was only a kiss, how did it end up like this' now he tourments himself by either imaging or seeing her with new lovers. | |
