The Notwist – One with the Freaks Lyrics 17 years ago
isn't that the point of art?: to create something which every individual can interpret, and make it their own?

Beirut – The Penalty Lyrics 18 years ago
i have a friend who's a real airheaded frat boy type. not big into art or music. but every time he drives home from college, he listens to this song, and it nearly brings him to tears.

that's just how powerful the beauty of this song is.

Thee Silver Mountain Reveries – Microphones in the Trees Lyrics 18 years ago
reminds me so much of the book, 1984.

funny, because i first heard the song amidst reading that book, and it fit beautifully.

I believe that last part goes,

"Reach for those inner thighs
That gravitate towards me..."

Modest Mouse – Secret Agent X-9 Lyrics 19 years ago
Uh, Secret Agent X-9 was a British comic strip. Vonnegut probably got the idea from that.

Wolf Parade – This Heart's on Fire Lyrics 19 years ago
boeckner said it's a song dedicated to his girlfriend for being supportive of him when his mother died.

hence, "...and left the body in the bed all day/we don't know what to do."

i believe the correct lyric is "I am my mother's hand."

Air – Playground Love Lyrics 20 years ago
funny-- i always thought it was "i feel my body reeling, time's no matter, i'm on fire . . ."

how great that when i went to the band's website, i found out that i was RIGHT, and you were WRONG.

Pedro the Lion – The Longer I Lay Here Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is pure GENIUS. Bazan obviously doesn't want to come out and admit it's about masturbation-- would you? His music is always so personal. I read this whole argument, and I'm convinced it's about masturbation. He's disguised it as a run-of-the-mill prayer song about a mundane sin-- laziness. I don't think that's what it is about, however. He gives several hints throughout the song. First of all, LISTEN TO THE METRONOME. What does that remind you of? Why else would someone place a blatant metronome noise in their song unless they were hinting at something, or just being obnoxious. Second, as someone else mentioned, listen to the way he says "ridiculous." And, of course, there is the metaphor at the very beginning. Come on guys, open up your eyes and ears!
