I could not agree more, sweet_emotion! Who'd have ever thought that Aerosmith would remake an Aretha Franklin original--and make it sounds this amazing!? |

The "Big 10 Inch" refers to an actual record. A blues record, more specifically. But there's that trademark innuendo that gives the song its double meaning--a purely sexual one, of course. ;) |

I think the song means that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The blind man didn't literally teach him now to see, what the lyrics mean is that you have to look deeper. This blind man taught him that there's more to life than what you physically see. It's about understanding and feeling. You have to open your heart and your mind and let people in, and sometimes that means looking past your own insecurities and shallowness and then you might finally see the proverbial light. |

OK, I'm the biggest Joe Perry fan I know. I don't care if he's old enough to be my father, I am totally in love with him. And his vocals on this song are so amazing. I was parylized when I heard it for the first time. THIS is Joe at his finest. Not only are the vocals outstanding, but the music, the backup vocals...everything about this song makes me fall in love with the album all over again. If only Joe stuck to the lower register on his solo album...sigh...sorry, I'm a pathetic little fangirl. As for the song's meaning, it sounds to me like he's alone and trying to find his place in the world, and really just wants to go home. He sounds sad and lonely (but still extremely sexy). ;) |

I agree with sweet_emotion what Honkin' was a great album for Aerosmith--but only for die hard Aerosmith fans, really. A lot of people who just like Aerosmith's newer stuff (1988 on) don't like this album because they don't understand that this is where Aerosmith started. Personally, I love this album because of that--because they are finally going back to their roots. A lot of the songs (mostly blues covers) have a real rock-a-billy quality about them that I just adore. Now, the meaning of this song is pretty obvious: He's got his girl, she's the only one for him, and he's basically daring anyone to say they've got someone better. She's perfect in his eyes, and to him can do no wrong. If I'm not mistaken, this (like a few of the others on the album) is a Missisippi Fred McDowell cover. Hey, there is nothing wrong with doing a cover album when you do it right. And Honkin' was definitely done right. :) Sorry if I kind of sound like a know-it-all but if I could major in Aerosmith in college, I'd be getting much better grades. ;) |

I believe this song isn't just Steven's take on the story of Adam and Eve, but also about the origins of human beings' inherent sexuality. The "original sin" if you will. And it's definitely no secret that Steven Tyler is an extremely sexual person, who writes very sexual lyrics. His plays-on-words and innuendos are legendary, and coupled with Joe Perry's riffs and Tom Hamilton's driving bass lines are what make Aerosmith's music so fun to listen to. |

I heard somewhere that Bowie wrote this song about Steven Tyler (of Aerosmith)'s first wife, Cyndrica Foxe. It makes sense when you read some of the lyrics, like "sits like a man but he smiles like a reptile..." and "he's outrageous, he screams and he bawls..." etc. I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is, it makes a lot of sense. Of course, I've also heard the Iggy Pop rumor, as well, so who knows? Great song though. |
