| Death Cab for Cutie – I Was a Kaleidoscope Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
|
It's about the narrator walking through the snow to his girlfriend's apartment and failing in his attempt to save the relationship. I think the Morse code in his chattering teeth is like his subconscious warning him that this will not go well. He mentions getting cold feet from walking through the snow, but it also means he is getting "cold feet," as in being nervous about what he has to do. When he finally talks to her, he is so nervous that his vision seems like a kaleidoscope, and even the things he planned to say don't seem to make any sense. So she breaks up with him, and leaves him out in the cold, both literally and figuratively. The repeating of the first verse is now about him walking back to his own house, with the Morse code message probably telling himself something along the lines of, "I told you so." |

For Mikkaroboter, the word "guess" is equal to "I guess" in this song. The "I" is implied, making the sentence declarative. |

I just want to point out that there is also the line, "Get me out of here" repeated several times during the end of the song. |

The correct lyrics are, "IN an ocean of noise, I first heard your voice." Then at the end, he says, "I'm gonna work it out, 'cause time won't work it out for you." |

Actually, same with the line "We're headed south" before "Tack the sails." It's left out too. |

Toward the end, after it says, "This vessel's underway," the line "Headed south" is left out. Minor qualm, but I thought I'd point it out. |

| Ash – Burn Baby Burn Lyrics

There are a lot of mistakes in these lyrics.
"Your golden hair and pale blue eyes"
"Tumbling like the leaves
Yeah, we are spiraling on the breeze"
"Binds that can't be untied
Oh, it's a slow suicide"
"Like all the good times have gone away"
"Vicious bitter words
Becoming more and more cruel" |

I think a better translation of the Spanish is "I never thought that I would never get another opportunity to find a new way and create a better world." |

| Dntel – (This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
The song is about an actual dream Ben Gibbard had involving Evan Dando (of The Lemonheads) and Chan Marshall (who is Cat Power). This was the first collaboration between Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello (who is glitch-pop artist Dntel). The success of this collaboration lead to them doing a whole album (Give Up) together as The Postal Service. Here are some Wikipedia links that explain it all in detail. | Styrofoam – Couches in Alleys (feat. Ben Gibbard) Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
|
I agree that it's addressing Jack Kerouac. He's saying he really identified with him (felt like his mirror) while he was on the road, but now he can't keep leaving his problems behind him the way people leave their old couches out in alleys. Just as no one claims the couches and they become "rain-soaked and rotten," so too do his problems, and when the road runs out, and he has to return home, he is trapped behind walls and fences having to deal with the whole filthy metaphorical mess. I guess in a way he's asking Kerouac for his advice on this situation, though he acknowledges it's the very thing that brought about his demise. A little depressing, but beautifully done. |
