I have read what all of you have said, and what I love about this song (it is my favorite of any band) is that, given its length, it takes you in a thousand different directions. Adam's goal is consistent throughout the whole piece, but the way he sings it(with more stress and anguish on the words "movie screen" and "you can't get very far") leaves it up to a number of interpretations.
My favorite part is the verse about the circuis because it seems to be the most elusive. Movies and movie screens and Hollywood can be seen in other parts, but what's this immediate switch to elephants and tilt-a-whirls about, exactly? It references ghosts like the beginning of the song, but I'm not sure. |

I am with you on this one. It seems that a song like this has a lot of potential symbolism and all that...not to mention that it just plain rocks.
But I am reminded of the song Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles, because this song seems to be about an aging, lonely woman who lives a simple life with bridge and rocking chairs: a classic older woman. |

Well, I had really hoped something would be here for this song. But I'm not surprised considering most people don't even know that their first album, "Message for Albert," even exists. I thought that this song had a hint of the tale of the Frog Prince in it, but there seems to be something deeper in it than a light fairy tale. Anyone have any ideas? |
