It's a University Student anthem, with references to the Student's Union, the many many many poster sales that occur there throughout the year. Someone dressed in a suit would be most out of place in a union. At least, that's how I see it. Sounds like a typical saturday when I was a fresher: Football, Union, then memory loss... |

yes, i think it's what he hopes his partner will say to his friends, his parents, their children and, finally, to him (in her thoughts) after he's died. |

interesting interpretation suziegrrl. a good and different perspective there.
to me, it's about being so happy in your love for each other that the knowledge that one of you will die before the other is strangley comforting. and they're hapay about it as they've talked about what they want to happen after they pass away.
it's a beautiful song, but i sometimes find it disturbing, as i've never experienced a love as powerful as described. |

| Iron & Wine – Weary Memory Lyrics

the first two memories seem to be of little daily routines that the loved one had. these memories would tend to be recalled more often than others, as they would be triggered by his daily routine (e.g. each time he made a cup of tea or went to bed).
disagree with the mother theory ("found a photo of you when we were married"), unless by "married" he means when his mother was visibly pregnant.
what i'm curious about is the rosary "broken into pieces". seems strange that an important item would be broken. |

lol. 8 posts until someone actually makes a stab at what the songs about (erm...the purpose of this website????)
i agree with mushman and boss2k - it has all the hall-marks of domestic abuse. but that also ties in with convexconcave's comment about the "two opposite emotions". most domestic abuse cases are exactly like that - the abusing partner can be kind and loving, but, in an instant, turn into a monster.
to me, Si's trying to write this song from the viewpoint of the abuser, to give a different perspective. but then again, it's probably about why britain shouldn't have the Euro or something... |
