Weezer – My Name Is Jonas Lyrics 20 years ago
Avoiding the whole Giver thing, this is what I came up with: I think this song is about childhood, or possibly nostalgia in general.

"My name is Jonas
I'm carrying the wheel"

The speaker is introducing himself. "I'm carrying the wheel" could mean steering wheel? "I'm behind the wheel." Just a thought.

"Thanks for all you've shown us
This is how we feel"

Now that I've been through all this, this is what I think of it.

"Come sit next to me
Pour yourself some tea
Just like Grandma made
When we couldn't find sleep"

We were helped by other's back then, and we had it good.

"Things we're better then
Once but never again
We've all left the den
Let me tell you 'bout it"

It was good. It's over. We've all moved on.

"The choo-choo train left right on time
A ticket cost only your mind
The driver said "hey man, we go all the way"
Of course we were willing to pay."

The train symbolizes leaving childhood and going to adulthood. I'm still a kid, but I still miss when I was a younger kid, even though I remember wanting to grow up so much. They're willing to give that up to move on in life.

"My name is wepeel
I gotta box full or your toys
They're fresh out of batteries
But they're still makin' noise"

I'm not too good with who Jonas and Weepel are. But it seems that the toys Weepel is carrying are reminders of his past. They batteries are gone, and it's all over, but they still make noise as a reminder.

"Tell me what to do
Now the tank is dry
Now the wheel is flat"

It's all over. What do I do now?

"And you know what else?
Guess what I received
In the mail today
Words of deep concern
From my little brother"

This doesn't make sense to me, but it could be just building up for the next part, although 'little brother' could mean the speaker's past.

"The building's not goin' as it's planned
The foreman has injured his hand
The dozer will not clear its path
The driver swears he learned his math
The workers are goin' Home!"

I was so eager to get on with life, but now it's not going as I planned. Everything is wrong, so I want to back away or 'go home'.

Switchfoot – Don't Be There Lyrics 20 years ago
Once I fell asleep while listening to my Switchfoot CD, a composite of all four albums, and when I woke up near midnight, I was still half asleep, and it was playing this song. I'm not sure if that played a role in it, but I've loved this song ever since.

As a completely different, yet interesting story, I just took the battery out of my laptop and it's still working.

Switchfoot – Dare You To Move Lyrics 20 years ago
This is my favourite song ever!
I've pulled a few ideas out of these lyrics:

Lines 1-2: It seems to me like it's second person to someone who doesn't really reside on Earth. Maybe God?

Lines 4-14: The second person's arrival at Earth is a unique if everyone's there and watching them. Also, they're expecting something to happen because of this. When the refrain starts with "I dare you to move", it naturally seems as if the speaker is talking about the same second person as he was in the beginning. The speaker is expecting, or daring this newcomer to do something. On the contrary, it could shift second person to humanity, daring them to do something about this.

Lines 15-16:The world isn't a perfect place and some people don't accept God, henceforth 'resistance'.

Lines 17-20: Maybe it's the rapture, and now that the world is coming to an end, people are looking back on their lives and what the world has become.

Lines 27-28: Maybe redemption has stories to tell=maybe redemption exists and it's right where God is.

Lines 29-32: You can't run away from your sin. Besides, you can redeem yourself right here with God. This part shifts the second person to humanity.
