| The Smiths – Stretch Out and Wait Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i like this version more than version 2. though it's slightly wrong. it should be: all the lies that you made up what's at the back of your mind? oh your face i can see and it's desperately kind but what's at the back of your mind? the opening verse to version 2 is different: on the high rise estate what's at the back of your mind? oh the three day debate on a high rise estate what's at the back of your mind? the lyrics submitted are a combination of both versions. i love the phrase "desperately kind". i know what it's like to be desperately kind, hoping they'll open up and give us a chance. let me in to your life. let me invade your space. :sigh: |

| The Smiths – Well I Wonder Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
gasping - dying - but somehow still alive this is the final stand of all i am thank God for elizabeth smart, urging young morrissey on to write these words down and toy with the idea of throwing them into a song with a beautiful melody. please don't forget me, keep me in mind. oh how wish they would look back on us like we do them when we sit in our room and play this song over and over, tossing and turning in our bed, wiping the tears from our face, hoping the world would just swallow us and forget us. but they can't forget us. our obsession musn't forget us. please keep us in mind. keep us in mind. oh God, it's raining outside. |

i don't hate people who toss out absolutes, i hate it when people toss out absolutes. regardless, i agree w/ graybandit. ronan clarified this in an interview. it's basically that. |

| Maupassant sounds sharp but not eloquent. Leave eloquence to Ronan Harris. | |
| VNV Nation – Voice Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i think he's speaking in the voice of God. and God is claiming that he is not the same as man and that he is not man's god. God isn't taking responsibility for man. this is assuming that God is better than man and refuses to be associated with man. 'voice' is ambiguous on the album 'praise the fallen' because it doesn't fully explain his stance. i believe this ties in with 'saviour' on 'empires'. but it isn't till 'burning empires' that we hear 'saviour' in it's entirety. both 'voice' and 'saviour' are the fourth tracks on their respective albums. |

| VNV Nation – Serial Code Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
on the notes for serial code on advance and follow v2, ronan writes: "The words were based on a press statement read by the parents of a then recently found serial killer victim. Their statement was a liturgy of cold words, helplessness and a lack of remorse for any harm that might befall the killer." the song serial killer has it a few lines from serial code towards the end. |

i translated it slightly differently: who can triumph over us? there is now law and order. i swear to this. if the spirits (gods) are for us. then who can triumph over us? |
