| Dashboard Confessional – For You To Notice Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song makes me feel sorta split, i can relate to it from both sides. For the past 3 years i have been completely and utterly obsessed with a boy. Our relationship is quite unstable and complicated at times but nevertheless 'I Would be There Every time He Needs Me, I'd be there every time' no matter what i would just be drawn to him. Also throughout this whole time there have been countless boys that perhaps i would have been alot better of with, that perhaps i should have at least given a chance but i just didnt because i was so wrapped up in this other guy it was like i couldnt see anyone else but him. So yeah this kinda hits a little too close to home with me it makes me feel so guilty yet so sorry for myself. Dashboard Confessional are reli awesome. |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Black Balloon Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Ok Here’s My Take... The first line ‘Baby's black balloon makes her fly’ it reminds me of when children think that if they hold enough balloons it will make them fly. But in this case the balloon is her drug addiction – when she is getting high it makes her forget her troubles and it makes her feel as though she can fly. ‘I almost fell into that hole in your life’ – the hole in her life is her drug addiction. I think this means that he almost got involved in drugs also. ‘And you're not thinking about tomorrow’ – she isn’t thinking about the consequences or the terrible ‘black’ after effects of getting high ‘Cause you were the same as me, But on your knees’ – not sure what this part means yet but possibly that he wasn’t thinking about tomorrow either (or thinking about how being involved with this girl is gonna effect him) ‘A thousand other boys could never reach you, How could I have been the one ’ – this girl is sought after by other men and he is puzzled as to why he was ‘the one’ she chose. ‘I saw the world spin beneath you’ – when you are high you sometimes experience a sense of being above the world or immune from everything that was going on. The world is still ‘spinning’ meaning the rest of the world carry on not noticing the girl. Maybe he is like the connection between her and the rest of the world? ‘And scatter like ice from the spoon. That was your womb’ – (obviously a reference to drugs) but when it says ‘scatter’ it kinda sounds like something has been broken or something. Maybe it means her own world was destroyed. Inside a womb is where you are nurtured and looked after. This is a suggestion that her drugs where what nurtured and looked after her when no one else cared. Also when you are inside a womb you are isolated and cut off from everything else. ‘Comin' down the world turned over, And angels fall without you there’ – ‘coming down’ from your high, when the drugs begin to wear off you do not feel happy anymore infact it is the opposite you are hit with a sense of depression and sickness. So ‘the world turned over’ is like her world flipped from being a good place to being a terrible place to be. ‘ and angels fall without you there’ – angels are suppose to be high up in the sky so maybe it means that nothing is right unless she is high but im not sure on that part. ‘And I go on as you get colder, Or are you someone's prayer?’ – he carries on as she self destructs and becomes more and more messed up by her drug abuse. Also when you die you go ‘cold’ im unsure what the prayer part means though? ‘You know the lies they always told you, And the love you never knew’ – maybe the girls friends where into drugs and persuaded her into taking them to. Like they made it look more glorified and better than it actually is by making it look appealing. She thought that these people cared about her and cared for her but in actual fact they were just out to screw her up. ‘What's the things they never showed you, That swallowed the light from the sun, Inside your room’ – this means the flip side to drugs, the part they didn’t tell you about, the evil, wicked side to drugs. They ‘swallowed the light inside her room’ or darkened it. ‘Comin' down the years turn over, And angels fall without you there, And I'll go on to lead you home, All because I'm, All because I'm’ – so basically I think either the girl died in the end (due to her drug problem) and like he’s just looking back on it all and remembering what it was like before. Or maybe she got help and maybe she is past that now. ‘The angels fall without her there’ because she doesn’t get high anymore. He is still there fore her to ‘lead her home’ when she gets down or is tempted by her old life again. I’m not 100% sure on that part atm. ‘And I'll become, What you became to me’ – the last part I think means that because she was so vulnerable and helpless, he was always like the ‘carer’ in the relationship or the on who she leaned on when times were hard. They’ve switched so now he leans on her when things are hard so he is the vulnerable one now. |

| I agree with that! I think you're right it's about when someone you really care about are hurt and it's just about putting your arm around them and saying "Look you're my best mate, we've gone through every emotion possible together and I'm here for you!" | |

OH MY DAYS! This song is AMAZING! I think Rob Thomas is describing how this beautiful girl just basically walked all over him. This girl thought that he was weak and would just put up with her treating him badly but in the end Rob did the right thing and gave her the elbow and the song is about him coming out of the relationship a stronger person for it. It reminds me of one of my close mates, his girlfriend was blatantly not good for him, she just used him and treated him badly in general. He would have been better off without her but he was so obsessed with her that he couldn't see that. When my friend did realise what a mug he was being taken for he did eventually let this girl go. He didn’t want to but in the end he was better off without her. I absolutely love the part when it goes: “But I Am Stronger Than You Know, I Have To Let You Go.” One of the best lines in a song of all time! |

| I saw the same episode of Richard and Judy and James said he was inspired to write the song when he saw his ex girlfriend on the London Underground and she was with her new boyfriend. I think it is about him knowing all along that it was over but seeing his ex with her new boyfriend just sort of confirmed it to him and it’s just realising that it is just not gonna happen and it’s time to move on. In a way it is so sad because it kinda marks the end of the relationship but when James sings it, it is so beautiful. I can really relate to this song so much at the moment! | |
