I dont think there are set rules as to the subject matter of songs. Read the lyrics to The New also. It's obvious that Paul had a problem with women (or a particular woman) when he wrote these songs. Conversely, the lyrics are completely the opposite on Antics. I think you're reading the lyrics too literally. "The clock is set for nine but you know you’re gonna make it eight. All the people that you’ve loved they’re all bound to leave some keepsakes. I’ve been swinging all the time, think it’s time to learn your way. I picture you and me together in the jungle it would be ok." The jungle is the single scene, the bars, streets etc. She's just another conquest. Look at the whole album, its not romantic. Also, there have been plenty of songs in the past about one night stands. Afterall, Save a Prayer by Duran Duran is about that. However, lyrics are subject to interpretation and I guess I can see your perspective. But I really think the last two songs on this album is him being an asshole. However, he is the sap on Obstacle 2 and PDA. |

| You're wrong. If she is really like that, then why would he say to her, "If you don’t bring up those lonely parts, This could be a good time." ???? | |

| This song is about a guy telling a girl that he has tried, but he just can't commit. One day he might be able to, but not right now - he wants to live free. They've both given alot to each other, but he just wants to be selfish right now. However, she looks pretty good right now, so lets go home and hit it. Not romantic at all- which is why I love this song. It's real and realistic. | |

| I think this song is clearly about a one-night stand/ first time having sex with some woman. "Clock is set for 9 but you know you're going to make it 8" is about the fact that the guy is going to get out of there in the morning before she wakes up to avoid the awkwardness. "She doesn't know that I left my urge in the icebox" means that she doesn't know that his desire for her is alcohol-fueled." Leaving keepsakes means that this happens to her alot and that men have left little mementos here and there by accident. The woman is sensitive and insecure, but she keeps giving herself to men like this hoping for love. This song may sound beautiful, but this guy's intentions are not good/ virtuous. It's pure lust. | |
