Pretty sure the words are "throw her dirty dollars." At least that's what it sounds like, and it's more like the Decemberists to include alliteration than to specify an amount. |

I love this song, it's one of my favorites on that album -which is stellar in itself. I first had this song on my ipod but hadn't listened to it. One day in January when I was walking to school for a half-day (about a three mile walk) and I had my ipod on shuffle. This is the last song I heard, at the end of my journey as I reached the school. It really spoke to me because at the time there was a friend of mine that I really cared for and as I listened to this it became clear to me that he wasn't going to ever return those feelings, and that it had all been a waste of time. Having a bedroom window that faces the moon, I've always identified with it. So when I heard the second verse it made me think that I was that moonlight and that I needed to move on. For about a year after that day, I listened to this song every night before I fell asleep. The song doesn't say a lot, as far as number of words, but it really conveys a lot of meaning. |

I got this album as a present from my boyfriend, and I liked it a lot, yet not neccessarily this song that much. We went hiking one morning through this trail in the woods in the Sawtooth Mountains, got lost, and eventually reached our destination: Sweethearts' Bluff. The view was amazing. After that, as we were making our way back down, we came to this huge tree that had fallen over in a storm, he climbed over it first, and then I stepped onto the tree and he offered to help me down the other side (like a five foot drop) I expected to quickly hop down, but he slowly let me float down to the ground and into his arms. When I listened to this song after that, all I could think of was our hike and that moment. So for me, the words "In My Place" mean being in his embrace and enjoying the sunshine and tranquility of that morning. |

| The Strokes – Ask Me Anything Lyrics

Whether you like it or hate it, isn't it possible that he could be talking to a girl with this song. I mean, he never actually says the words "Ask Me Anything," which I think is strange, but he implies that by saying "I've got nothing to say" over and over. The litotes in this song make a stronger statement about how he wishes he was at that moment; he's got everything she could ask about, everything to receive, every reason to die, everything to show. It's like there's this girl that he wants to get to know, but doesn't know how to talk to her, and is too shy and soft-spoken to go up and start a conversation.
I've got nothing to say...
I've got nothing to hide
Wish I wasn't so shy |

I don't know, it was somewhat puzzling to read others' entries and their takes on this song. Upon hearing it for the first time, I assumed it was a love song, hence all the "we" references, and even though other explanations make sense, I still hold to that opinion. I love this song. I'm a big believer in the awesome possibilites that life holds and the potential that each person has, i.e. optimism, humanism. But I think what the words "there's never a wish better than this," is that there's no wish better than spending your life with someone that you love. And that's why, even though every verse comments on the pace of life at each age, 15, 22,33, it all ties back to her: when he first meets her at fifteen, when they're serious at age 22, when they have a family, and at 99 he's thinking about her in his last moments. I agree with SmileyJeff that he is widowed. I love this song; it speaks to me. |

I think this song is getting over a girl. Someone he really cared about, was in love with, which had never happened to him before. He misses her, but he hurt her beyond repair and they keep growing farther apart. "Like when you found me out for the fake I am So easy you see through me. What do you do to me to make me treat you so bad?" I think this song has a lot of regret and saddness "I think about it nightly how you opened up your life for me. Why are you still lonely?" |

Awesome song, just one correction:
"Fate isn't what we're up against
There's no design
Your flaws are fine" |

| Ben Folds – The Luckiest Lyrics

What to say about such an exquisite love song? This is the first Ben Folds song I ever heard, and it is still my favorite. I love the way he describes being in love - it's just perfect. I almost always cry when I listen to the verse about the old man and his wife, because I know that I don't want to live once the person, who makes me the luckiest, passes on. My former piano teacher and her husband were married for almost seventy years and when she died, I saw the light extuingished in his eyes. To lose someone you care about that much has to be the worst feeling in the world. |
