I believe Sufjan may be gay (mostly because of the track "Futile Devices") and was in a relationship with a woman.

ok like paleta said vicarious atonement is used in the bible as jesus dying for all peoples sins. so i try to picture this as the scene of his death. i try to interpret his lyrics one line at a time.
SHE could be mary magdalene or the virgin mary (not postitve) because they were the two that staid with him on the cross. However, this has something to do with some conflicting relationship. Also, because the toem first born (christ on the cross) is referred to as YOUR I disreguarded my intial thought of this being from christs perspective.
So i believe its form the perspective of an antagonist because he tried to kill Chris and "didn't while he had the chance" (ressurection and legacy he left behind is how he remains "alive").
ressurection= somnolence (usually means sleepwalking in this case probably means walking after
death)
thats all of my incoherent thoughts.

humans as ornaments may mean crucifice someone has probably already said that. overall i think this song has to do with people being too easily persuaded by religion but its not the strongest opinion ive ever had. |

apart from the seven deadly sins... seven is usually a positive in religions. there are too many too list but the one that i think pertains most are the 7 sacraments of the catholic church, the fact that 7 is a perfect number and 6 is imperfect, and 7 archangels. Maybe not specific to this song but its even more interesting because sevens is a reoccuring theme in the album. 3 also has a significant religous meaning but i think he is saying three of the seven im not sure.
"Like no other manger i am emptier with doubt" is obvious (im aware his lyrics are not always what they seem) but i just think that line is genious.
also, i hate the fact that people post incorrect lyrics and dont fix them. if you leak the cd listen to it but wait til it comes out until you start interpreting lyrics. you will misconstrue evuuuuuuurytthang. |
