The 12th of July is a national holiday in the North of Ireland, commemorating the Battle of the Boyne in 1690. The Orange Order (Protestant) holds parades, and in more militantly protestant areas, supporters build bonfires, burning effigies of Nationalist figures and Irish flags. Due to the intense political/religious climate, these demonstrations often lead to violence. |

The Irish Gaelic lines of the song translate is "you are welcome home now that summer is coming," which is a song of the same name written by Pádraig Pearse, an Irish Republican poet and revolutionary. There was an earlier Jacobite version of the song entitled Séarlas Og. This song actually seems to be a loose modernisation of either or both. |
