actually having read BOOM!baby's comment i can see where they are coming from as well, it doesnt necessarily have to be cheating, just about a person who is not 100% in to the relationship, who is distracted by something (whether is be another person or fame or something else).

one of the best off the album.
in my opinion this song is about two people in a relationship, where one of them, the one narrating, cheats alot. i think that the cheating causes so much strain on them that they cant move forward in their relationship anymore, that all they do is fight. but he wants to take it back to the beginning, where they can be perfect again, and he wants to fix it. perhaps he cheated in the past and doesnt want to be that man anymore - "I'm becoming the man I used to be I guess".

Bloc Party – One Month Off Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this song is about being in a relationship where one of the people (presumably kele's partner) dreamed of something better than what they had together, was searching for something more - and so they cheat on him and they break up. He finds it a cruel thing to do after they've been together for so long, been through so much, and warns them that they'll find nothing better than what they had. then he realises that he can be as cruel as they have been.

as for one month off, i think that this is hinting at the fact that the other person "needs time" to figure out what they want.

i really like this song, i think it really shows how you can be controlled by one person in a relationship when it should be about two people equally. when people say "i need time" it often shows a complete lack of compassion for the other person's feelings. kele is showing that he can be just as horrible to his partner as they have been to him, and that you cant always mess one person around all the time like that in a relationship. eventually the other person will have had enough and fight back.

I think this is a call for people - "mini gods and goddesses" - to accept the responsibilities they have on the world and that man is able to choose between good and evil things. With "mitsi turbo" (drugs) people can believe they have super strength, speed, and agility, just like those "gods and goddesses", and therfore are able to cause just as much harm, warfare, and chaos around them.

This can lead to things getting "quite highly charged" and perhaps even police involvement? ("we dance to the sound of the sirens")

But the last verse - "And to think, that these hands
could work wonders, with their touch" - makes me think that people shouldnt be causing trouble and that they could use their lives to bring goodness rather that trouble. I think the song is also specifically calling upon people who refer to each other as "rude boys" and use slang like "blud" - there is a stereotype in the UK that depicts "rude boys" as being boys who wear reekbok or addidas clothing, cause trouble, deal in drugs, get in to fights, get arrested. The references to Africans and Bengalis, in my opinion, is Kele referring to this stereotype. However! I think this is ironic. The lyrics are full of bitterness at the racism which operates within the UK and London especially. Kele, being of Nigerian origin, is more than likely to comment on the race issues within crime. It is not just Africans and Bengalis who are "rude boys" - race shouldnt come in to the equation.

It would not be unusual for Bloc Party to comment on issues such as racism and crime in their songs, given that they have written a whole song on the increasing rise of the price of gas, etc etc.

Bloc Party – Trojan Horse Lyrics 17 years ago
In my opinion, this song is about meeting and falling in love with a person (the way the greeks liked the look of the trojan horse) but once they got too involved with them and got to know them for what they really were, they fell out of love with them. this could indeed feel like a betrayal (the way the greeks were tricked by the trojan horse) because you were tricked in to thinking that the person was something they werent.

What they thought was love, was basically just lust or infatuation. "Our earthquake was just cracks." Now they need a way out of the relationship - perhaps this could be "Forever trying to find you on the lips of someone else".

Basically the relationship has run its course.

this song is simply beautiful.
i think it just must be a very personal song to kele about someone that's passed away.

Bloc Party – She's Hearing Voices Lyrics 17 years ago
the lyrics remind me of placebo.
"Kele has compared himself to famous bisexuals Brian Molko and David Bowie, as well as Morrissey. He also discussed the homoerotic story behind his song "I Still Remember" and the semi-autobiographical nature of it, explaining that he no longer feels a need to remain tight-lipped about his sexuality. Okereke did not explicitly define himself as being either gay or bisexual."

I agree with x-xanti-lovex-x, it is a horoscope, but there's more to it than that. I read in NME that intimacy is a very personal album to kele, and it has followed a break up he experienced in late 2007. this song is definitey a post break up song. after the end of a relationship, you sometimes feel like you're going backwards (retrograde) because you've just ended up with what you had before the relationship even started. Lines like "this is not a time to start a new love" fits perfectly, as does "Try not to worry about what's been missed". It also touches on the fact that he's been rebounding "i sleep with people i dont even like" etc etc.

To me the last verse is about him seeing his old love again, waiting to make it work out, but all he could think of was "hey". He couldnt say anything else because that chapter of his life is over and done with, and he cant get it back.

Overall its about the end of something good, people moving on, and the start of something new. (perhaps he himself cant move on?) Obviously thats just my opinion :)

love this song..! i dont think its about abuse. in fact, i see it as how he seems to take all of her pain, as if he is her rock, her saviour. like she's falling apart in front of him and he's trying to save her.. amazing song anyway, the intro is just incredible =]

Muse – Time Is Running Out Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this song is about unrequited love? say, he loves a girl, (look at first chorus) but she doesnt love him back.. but he wont give up on her. "i wont let you smother it, i wont let you murder it'' etc. ''you will be the death of me'' relates to the pain he is being put through by her.. ummm.. yeah. and 'time is running out' could refer to how long he is prepared to wait for her. kick ass song!!

Maroon 5 – Sweetest Goodbye Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this song can have many meanings - but i dont think that its is all about sex. there are sexual refrences but if you listen to the whole cd then these crop up in almost every song! i definitly agree that this song can be about having an affair and being the ''other woman'' or the ''other man''. it can be about how he is trying to persuade this soman that she is better off with him, even though she always has to leave.
however at first though i thought this song was about long distance relationships and how he always has to say goodbye to his girl, but he will always love her and how he is always waiting for her, and its about missing your partner when they are away. i love this song. i relate to it so much!

Maroon 5 – Through With You Lyrics 20 years ago
i think its basically a love song about someone needing to breaking up with someone else. its about someone who has had enough with their partner and cant take the way he/she is making them feel. OR it can be the aftermath of a breakup, its a song which makes you consider why you may have broken up, or when you think about the relationship (memories etc) and are justifying the break up. i personally love this song and i think the lyrics are really powerful and relate-able. lol. anyway its helped me in lots of ways..
so.. another brilliant song!!

Fightstar – Speak Up Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this song is about someone who has let you down "You will never make me break down again" and "Speak up stop ignoring the fact That you let me down", and you cant trust them anymore, or you cant get over the fact that they let you down "I can't communicate, I swear we never will" so you cant see where your relationship with them is going. "We started running now But I can't see straight".

The Bravery – Public Service Announcement Lyrics 20 years ago
i think this song is about a girl who he loves and she just uses him ''Mess up my room and proceed to tempt me, And no matter how good I am you learn to resent me'' or doesnt care as much for him as he does for her. but in the end she is an amazing girl ''stop drop and roll your on fire''.

The Bravery – No Ring On These Fingers Lyrics 20 years ago
i agree with lindseyD4563.. although this is quite an upbeat song i definitely think it is about breakup! sam's voice is quite melancholy. i think the ''i dont see no ring on these fingers'' is about commitment? maybe thats what the break up was about - lacking commitment. anyway very cool song, very cool band!
