I'd have to say that my favourite lines in the song are the first verse and the chorus. But by far the best line is the first line 'I'm finding my way back to sanity, again'. To me this means he is finally getting over his ex. Everyone has been through that before, when all you can think of is that person and it really does drive you to insanity. But when you finally get over them and onto someone else, definetly the best feeling in the world because you really are 'finding your way back to sanity, again' |

the chorus makes me think of huge waves crashing down around him and the metaphor of the 'weight of water' especially adds to this feeling....'This splintered mast I'm holding on won't save me long' gives you an image of shipwreck at sea in a terrible storm and the storm relates to there whole fight
but the best lyric in the song is:
"The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love"
No idea what it means....but i agree with what dcraigross said about how the person dumping said 'i cant love you anymore' yet all the narrator heard was 'love' and that was it...either way there is just SO MUCH EMOTION in that line! |

this song was in SCRUBS!!! now i love it! but this song is extremely good....EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN!!! You dont have to wrap your head around it so much but basically the lil verses are things ure parents would tell you...
and everyonce in awhile he wil contradict what they tell you or throw in a contradictory remark...."playing in the rain is worth catching a cold" this is not something your parents would say but everyone would have to agree that as bad as it is for your health playing in the rain IS worth catching a cold...

This is something your parents tell you when your young, teaching you the importance of staying healthy even tho putting sunscreen on is a pain...it protects you...

This is what first gave me this idea because as a teenager I can relate to this verse. Even though half the time you dont get to do what you want to do as a teenager I can understand that parents do have good intentions, or atleast believe it will all work out in the end because they have been through this all before. |
