Anyone care to discuss why it's 42 steps from the street? I like 42... It's the Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. :-) |

| Barenaked Ladies – What A Good Boy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song has been my favourite song for the longest time.... Probably half of my life by now. The "I go to school" line has been my anthem... Actually... This song has been my anthem. It's just beautiful and describes me perfectly. Thank you Steven Page for this... | |
| Barenaked Ladies – Testing 1,2,3 Lyrics | 18 years ago |

"She hasn't even heard them Since she found out what the words meant She decided she preferred them All wrong" I love how this is like nearly every single one of BNL's song. Everything has a million and five meanings but most aren't the intended meaning. And I just love it.... Because I do prefer most of them 'all wrong'. Yay Ed! |

Another reason why I only listen to BNL when I'm really down... The 'DON'T GIVE UP' makes me happy in this one. |
|
| Barenaked Ladies – Shopping Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Another reason why I love EtE... and Steven Page. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – She's On Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I don't know... I just love it. It still makes me laugh. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – Pinch Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is why I only listen to my fave band when I'm crying my eyes out... Because the most depressing lyrics are set to the happiest music. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – One Week Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I hate hate hate this song. And BNL is my favourite band.... It just drives me nuts because it's pretty brilliant. But I still hate it. But I LOVE the reference to it in 'Testing 1, 2, 3" | |
| Barenaked Ladies – Off The Hook Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Maroon doesn't feel like the songs all belong together... but all the songs are really nice on their own. And the word choices are wow. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – Next Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love the word choices... Just clever and :-) | |
| Barenaked Ladies – It's All Been Done Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song + David Duchovny = the best song EVER. :-) |
|
| Barenaked Ladies – I Live With It Everyday Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is fantasmic. The word choices just make me happy... And the harmony in "The love I put away" etc makes me happy. And BNL just makes me happy. But I only ever listen to them when I'm crying my eyes out. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – I Know Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I don't know... But this song has grown on me over the years... because it's well-written despite all the words running together into a giant random mess. But then again, I love Ed. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – Half a Heart Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Dear Ed, Damn your double-meanings. PS: This is my favourite song on BLAM. |
|
| Barenaked Ladies – Grade 9 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I first heard this song when I was in elementary school and remember looking forward to Grade 9 thanks to it. I'm now a junior/senior in college and it still makes me laugh my arse off. | |
| Barenaked Ladies – Fun and Games Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Dear Steven Page, You are my HERO. And the piccolo in this one makes me quite happy. But the fact that it's musically hillarious makes it all the more a great song. |
|
| Barenaked Ladies – For You Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song makes me cry. Ed needs to stop doing that to me... I wonder what the intended meaning is... |
|
| Barenaked Ladies – Down to Earth Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Ok. The like "What's more ironic than a hippie in Versace?" makes my LIFE. And the harmony in this one between Steve and Ed = fantasmic. |

| Barenaked Ladies – Tonight Is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song.... It's disturbed the hell out of me for many years. I think the most disturbing night was back in high school where the school put on a mock accident to show that drinking and driving on prom night = stupid... And this song kept playing in my head which made the whole mock accident feel almost surreal... (a close friend was playing one of the victims) And in general... Steven's humour aside... This song is really depressing... I love the irony in the music as well... with the circus song that generally signals a good happy time... and the piccolo is used quite well -- the trill on the words 'so much blood' that ascends to the high note (I havn't heard it in a while and can't remember what key it's in to be able to tell you what note) always scares the crap out of me because it's just creepy in a weird ironic kind of haha way. I guess that's what I love and hate about BNL and why I only ever listen to them when I'm pretty down (even tho they are my favourite band)... A good majority of their depressing songs have very happy music.... And it's easy to over-analyzing what they really mean... ('Leave', for instance) And chances are, we're all wrong on the true intended meaning. Steven Page loves doing that to everyone every chance he gets... Crafty of him... |

| Girlyman – Say Goodbye Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song will always be special to me... And make me bawl my eyes out... I was introduced to it by a friend before his passing and I played it at this friend's memorial service... I was asked to say a few words since I was a close friend (he had helped me decide to come out of the closet...), but I couldn't quite articulate anything in words.... Given that I'm currently in music school (as a flute music ed major) and music's ALWAYS been my best form of expression, I figured out how the chords and such are, created a piano part and played it on a piano while crying my way thru the melody. This friend was 19 years old when he committed suicide. He had just come out as a homosexual a year earlier, his junior year of high school and had just been accepted to the University I am currently at for music (as a composition/Theory major with a minor in education).... Today is the four year anniversary of my friend's death. And this song is just repeating thru my head like there's no tomorrow... Doris wrote such a beautiful song.... | |

| No Vacancy – Fight Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Woah, heartagram.... Learn how to SPELL! Judging by your comment, you really need some SCHOOL. (and coming from someone who goes to college in Bam's hometown of Dub-C, both he and Ville Vallo would probably tell you the same!) Anyways... Yes, No Vacancy is fictional. But! Adam Pascal (the frontman of No Vacancy, aka "Theo") actually wrote some of the music/instrumentation to this song AND "Heal Me, I'm Heartsick". Excellent vocals by Mr Pascal, def not his best tho... (I can name at least 20 other songs he's much better on than "Fight") But still amazing since I absolutely love his voice and could never say anything bad about him. |

| No Vacancy – Heal Me, I'm Heartsick Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
No Vacancy a fictional band fronted by Adam Pascal (aka "Theo"). (yes, the original Broadway Roger Davis in RENT.) If you wanna hear more of his awesome voice (including craploads of falsetto which makes me smile my ass off), go buy yourself a copy of either of (preferably both) his solo albums "Civilian" and "Model Prisoner" and take a listen and melt because he's that good. He was also the original and closing cast Radames in AIDA as well as the closing cast Emcee in Cabaret (take a listen to "Willkommen"!!) and Freddie in the Actor's Benefit Fund version of Chess (and does an EXCELLENT "Pity the Child" and "One Night in Bangkok"). And also a few other projects, major and minor, he's worked on such as his pre-RENT band MUTE who did my fave song that he's sung entitled "Divine" (it's in the style of this song, actually, which is why I mention it) and also the short-lived Adam Pascal Band (APB)... BTW, the lyrics presented here are not accurate, Adam sings "heathen", not "heaving". That bugged me very much... But this song... Wow. I recognized the fabulous Mr Pascal when I first saw this movie and everyone thought I was stupid or something... Then he did the RENT movie and everyone magically knows who he is. I love this song very much... It's always felt really almost like a suicidal song about wanting love really bad... And Mr Pascal's voice REALLY compliments the lyrics very well... He puts in just enough angst and edge to make the song work and it's simply beautiful. (but then again, I've been practically obsessed w. his voice for the past like eight years. ^_^) |

whisper2me73.... get yourself a copy of the OBCR. (or even better, go see it. the current cast is okie! ^_^) the film, despite how it does have its strengths, is not as woah as the show. it leaves out enough... but since i'm feeling nice and won't go on a bashing spree tonite... mark gives the story in the tune ups, which that explorer moron... err... chris columbus... turned to dialogue. |

| Rent – What You Own Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Does anyone else find Anthony's resolution on the word "disengage" and Adam's handling of the top really freaking awesome? It's seriously, like, my fave moment in the piece. Because I'm such a Theory geek and awesome resolutions like that make me smile. | |

| Rent – Will I? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I agree completely with rockenplay. This song is the perfect song, in my opinion. And the way the chords work out is simply impressive and mind-boggling. I saw a copy of the score recently and it still drives me insane. It's simplicity makes it so complex. I hope that the movie vesion of RENT gives it the respect it deserves. And the presentation of this piece is just as amazing as Jonathan Larson would've wanted it. |
