okay, so correction to my earlier theory. i think he is mourning the suicide of one of his friends and is trying to come to terms with it. he feels guilty and is trying to think of things he could have done to "make her less sad". then he gets kind of angry "so call it quits or get a grip. you said you wanted a solution. you just wanted to be missed". then he ends the song by explaining what she meant to him. this makes more sense to me. but maybe i'm just a dumbass? |

the boy who blocked his own shot god, this song holds so much meaning for me. obviously, the story is beyond us as to what happened, but the title implies suicide. and he's sorry he made her so sad. especially the parts about "cold as a tomb" and "when i sneak to your bed, to pour salt in your wounds". nightmares. it seems almost like he is talking to himself, or someone suicidal when he says "so call it quits or get a grip. you said you wanted a solution, you just wanted to be missed..." this song has that sort of biting but haunting tragedy to it. the kind that makes you want to forget. god, whatever happened... |

this song is so comforting to me. i mean, sometimes i feel so hopeless, and then i look around and think 'oh my god, everyone here is blind but me!' and that feels like trying to scream, but nothing comes out. when i hear this song, and also Ani DiFranco's "Welcome To:", i feel like i'm not the only one who is seeing what's really going on... like maybe i'm not fucking insane after all... but i guess that doesn't really help solve the problem... i feel so hopeless sometimes. it's like, i salvage what i can, but that usually amounts to about a box of wires, a rat, and a buck fifty... |

| Grateful Dead – Box Of Rain Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i read that the 'box of rain' was talking about the earth. it was originally 'sphere of rain' or 'circle of rain' or something but that sounded bad... | |
