| Tool – Jambi Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Absolutely love this song. It's one of my favorites from Tool. The meaning is pretty obvious in it though. It's a love song. Tool is not known for writing love songs, so it was nice to see their version of one. I supposed it could also just be about a person who is extremely important to you or changed your life in a great way, but it comes across to me as a love song. | |

*laughs* Well, it's obvious that the song is not about killing George Bush. It could be easily taken as an anti-Bush song though. And I'm pretty sure it's not about terrorism because A) no one that I know of in the U.S. (where people are hearing this song) is trying to deify terrorists, and B) he says, "Renew belief in some demented man." That's why it could be assumed that it's specifically about George Bush. Just another thing I'd like to add. I always thought this song was rockin' but I didn't understand why they were saying not to deify George Bush because, as far as I know, a lot of people don't like him, and those that do aren't saying he's on an equal plane with God. So I talked to my boyfriend about it and he explained that they could be talking about how people were trying to deify Bush in the last election by painting him as the more moral and Godly option. That's if you interpret it as just about Bush though. And FireWolf, when I first heard this song, I didn't know the name of it, so I totally thought they were saying "defy" as well. :-P |

| Disturbed – Stricken Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is amazing. I pretty much agree with what people have said that it's about him being in a relationship that ended. But to elaborate on that, I think that it was more specifically a woman he loved, but she was abusive/cruel to him. That would explain why he says lines such as, "I am crippled by all that you've done," "I want to know if I'll heal inside," and, "You'll never know how your face has haunted me, my very soul has to bleed this time." It's clear that for some reason he loved her a lot and is having a hard time getting over her, but it was a terrible relationship and has left him "stricken." | |

This song is my favorite on the album as well, and as long as you pay attention to the lyrics, it's pretty obvious what it means. It starts out with a lonely guy being in a bar and he finds a girl. They talk, it quickly progresses to more, to them going to a hotel, etc., basically having a one-night stand. The chorus is the most telling part of this song. "To the love, I left my conscience pressed between the pages of the Bible in the drawer. 'What did it ever do for me?' I say. It never calls me when I'm down." The Bible in the drawer is obviously a reference to how many hotels have that and he's saying that he decides to basically say, "Screw morals and my conscience. I don't care if this is right, I'm lonely and want to have sex." His conscience wasn't helping his loneliness, but this did. When he says, "Love never wanted me, but I took it anyway": he's literally taking it, in a roundabout way, by sleeping with some random girl. This song is just excellent lyrically and musically, and I think it speaks for how a lot of people may feel. |

| Alison Krauss – It Doesn't Matter Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I agree with FeyTH. Her talking about him being on a road and in a cage seems to suggest that he wants to go somewhere, and she's giving up her own feelings of love to let him go. | |
| The Ataris – The Boys of Summer (Don Henley cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Frickin' awesome cover. Even though I wouldn't say it's better than the original I enjoy it more because of the higher intensity. The meaning is pretty straightforward: the guy is talking and reminiscing about summer love that he had, and how he doesn't want to let go. | |

I agree with the interpretation of it being about loving someone who died and then realizing they were lucky just for having truly loved. Miss_maple, I don't mean to rag on your opinion or anything, but I really don't think it would be about her being raped because she mentioned making love twice: the first time, she wasn't sober. The second time, it was in the roses. Plus, the recount of them making love in the roses and him taking her picture seems to be a happy memory, not one of being raped. However, if it wasn't for that line, I can totally see how you would interpret it like that. |

| Heather Nova – It's Only Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is an incredible song. After much pondering about it, here's what I think. The woman was in a good relationship, everything was seemingly going well, and now it's kind of falling apart. They may have not been honest with each other--"what a challenge, honesty"--and now the relationship is suffering because of it. She's questioning if she should even stay in it, if it was worth it all. Anyway, beautiful song. | |

Well, I won't try to explain what I think this song means since you hear it right from the writer, but there is one line that has always stood out to me. "I wrestled the angel for more than a name." This, to me, means he wanted to be able to do more in this life than he's able to do with mortal limitations. |

I completely agree with Koiju's insightful view of this song. Thanks for helping me understand it. Johnny-e, I believe when they sing, "I fight for the chance to be lied to again," they are speaking of how the world lied to them. They want that back; it's like they almost aren't ready to know of God. Because, honestly, it is much easier to be an unbeliever than a Christian. I don't think they are particularly saying they don't like the truth though, just that they miss how easy it was before--that's why they're "fight[ing] for the chance to be lied to again." |
