Imogen Heap – Goodnight and Go Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah bmp0f5, there's definitely a stalker undertone, although it's presented in such a bouncy, innocent way you could *almost* excuse it as a post-adolescent infatuation. I know I wouldn't mind being stalked by Immi.

The Weepies – Dating A Porn Star Lyrics 17 years ago
theshambler: I think there's also a bit of despair in the third verse:

Sometimes I think that I was born to lose
My money, my shirt, my socks and my shoes

The boyfriend is not allowed in and is playing cards to get in but he loses everything. He's willing to risk everything just to see his star's show. So even though he's giving a warning he still seems unable to stay away, sort of a moth to the flame situation.

The Cardigans – Been It Lyrics 19 years ago
From the CD insert, the last line of the chorus is:
maybe I was your whore

I agree that this song is about giving your all for someone and them just never stepping up to giving back or even growing into their potential.

Moby – I Like It Lyrics 20 years ago
Wow, what a totally straight foward unabashed song about sex. It reminds me a lot of Lene Nystrom's "Play with me" in how it's not dirty and it's not sexual for shock value or anything, it's just an honest song about what he's feeling.

Emilíana Torrini – Wednesday's Child Lyrics 20 years ago
When I google for "Wednesday's Child" I find a program for adoption. This would mean to me that this is about a mother who's giving up her "Wednesday's Child" and is wracked with guilt over it.

Imogen Heap – The Moment I Said It Lyrics 20 years ago
good analysis pearljam but I would add that the speaker seems to be the one who set it all off. The moment she says "it" things start to happen.

"Suddenly things just happened, we can’t explain…"

This sounds like a fight and the other party is mad and going to walk out but the speaker is trying to get them to stay, to cool down and they will forget about being angry but that doesn't address the underlying problems.

"Now sleep, I promise it‘ll all seem better…somehow…in time."

Imogen Heap – Just for Now Lyrics 20 years ago
This sounds like a family that attempts to put all the problems of their life aside during the holidays to celibrate being together.

"It's what I always wanted
Could never have had too many of these"

Even though she doesn't like it she accepts it semi-gracefully

"Well I, quit kicking me under the table
I'm trying; will somebody make her shut up about it?
Can we settle down please?"

I'd say that's definately a family with kids.

At the end though there is an overall sense of dread and foreboding. Although the family has put aside it's hopelessness they all know it will return soon enough so at the end you hear

"Get me outta here (x13)"

Imogen Heap – The Walk Lyrics 20 years ago
This seems to be about a woman who is good friends with a man but they find themselves drifting into a romantic relationship even though they for some reason can't (married perhaps).

"I don’t want to feel like this,
So that makes it all your fault"

"Oh don’t make it harder than it already is
I feel a weakness coming on"

Obviously the guy is helping make this a problem for her.

"It’s not meant to be like this
Not what I planned at all"

She wants to stay friends and is sure that this will permanently effect their relationship in a negative way.

Simon and Garfunkel – Keep The Customer Satisfied Lyrics 20 years ago
This is totally about selling weed. The "keep the customer satisfied" is a justification for what the singer is doing. He sees it as just doing a service for others, why is "the man" always on his back about it? Very poetic in typical Paul Simon fashion.

Simon and Garfunkel – A Poem On The Underground Wall Lyrics 20 years ago
I would definately say the four letter poem was a swear word. Look at the description of the man, hiding in shadows, his eyes "leap and scratch, At all that they can touch or catch". He holds the crayon as his rosary. Clearly this is about someone who is at least semi-crazy. However, it's probably the most poetic song ever about graffiti.

ABBA – I Am The City Lyrics 20 years ago
Wow, that's some deep insight there bigdave69. What exactly is "crap" about this song. I think it's a pretty good personification of a big city like New York. Many cities seem to have their own personality because of the amalgamation of peronalities that inhabit it.

Aqua – An Apple A Day Lyrics 20 years ago
penwhale: no the lyrics are correct as listed (as best as I can hear them at least). This song is making fun of all the adages that some people live their lives by. An apple a day WON'T keep the doctor away, despite conventional wisdom.

Aqua – Aquarius Lyrics 20 years ago
Can anyone make out what's being said in the background during the line "Cause I - can only lose - when I’m - Aquarius" after the "For life - and being free
Its dragging you - its killing me
You seduced me – I can never ever run" stanza? It's the only one that has two extra lines. To me it sounds like after "I - can only lose (the words I can't refuse) - when I'm - (the words, the words) Aquarius. After the "I wish the stars would turn you in" stanza the first background lyric is "the words, the words", no second background lyric.

Aqua – Aquarius Lyrics 20 years ago
I think the key lines are:

"This is it - I cant run away – you’re controlling my life - and I can hear me say
I - can only lose - when I’m – Aquarius"

So clearly the speaker is torn, they want to be free of "Aquarius" but they hear themselves saying that it isn't possible. Now Aquarius is something that's controlling but at the same time the speaker seems to think it's propping up their life

"Your the power that I need - to make it all succeed"

The two normal references to a controlling influence in a situation like this is a typically a person or an addiction. The fact that the speaker states that "Aquarius" came around when they were vulnerable doesn't really clear that up one way or another.

"When I was weak - you came along
Enlightened me - covered the sun
You seduced me - I can never ever run"

The one line I can find to support the drug angle is:

"It calls your name - and you listen - it steals your soul - and your hunger and your lust"

Saying how you stop having any ambition, no desire to live when you're so fully addicted to something.

Right below that, however, "Aquarius" is referenced in a way I don't see a anthropomorphized addiction being used normally:

"For life - and being free
Its dragging you - its killing me"

Usually there's no "downside" to the addiction's part of the relationship as stated here about being dragged. Any thoughts on this?

Lisa Loeb – Falling In Love Lyrics 20 years ago
There is so much sadness in this song. The whole point seems to be that breaking up in inevitable and the time you spend together (best case) is a time when you're "falling in love". Of course for the woman in the song this didn't work out very well because the man she was with didn't seem to care much for her and in the process her dreams seem to have been lost. "She wanted to be a cowboy", so final and past tense, like the woman's life is over.

Aqua – Barbie Girl Lyrics 20 years ago
BLiNkDaBEsT182, FIE and raVer*gurL have any of you actually read the lyrics to the song? This is clearly a jab at the "barbies" that believe that they must be perfectly pretty to be loved. Just look at the line "You can touch - you can play - If you say - I’m always yours". The woman in the song is saying you can treat me like an object (a barbie doll), if you offer me some sense of security in return. The back of the CD even has the disclaimer "The song 'Barbie Girl' is a social comment and was not created or approved by the makers of the doll".

Aqua – Back From Mars Lyrics 20 years ago
It's humorous as much as people say Aqua is "just bubblegum" here they have another social commentary song. Not so shallow after all.
