being a pharmacy major i love this song...its clear that jack is mocking the drug industry and the people on medication. i love the line "strip the bark right off the tree and hand it this way". such a good vizualization of what medication actually is. |

For whatever reason i really like this song on all fronts. To me, its a progression of fame. "When youre in your little room" is talking about before fame, and as the lyrics progress (quickly) fame ends up probalby taking away creativity so you need to think of your roots and where you really came from.
Also, it could be a childhood thing of a kid listening to music in his/her room and dreaming of whats to be. |

I have the strong feeling that this song is not about drugs, but rather about pop culture and lure it brings. That is, being wrapped up in what society is currently putting on us, what makes us feel good even if it is wrong for us. Tool speaks of thinking for ourselves, but people as a whole are easily amused by things. I don't honestly believe this song is truely about drugs, but religion is the opiate of the masses, and theres a good possibility government and popl culture are the new religions. |
