| The Beatles – Carry That Weight Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
To me this song is about not letting someone get too close. "I never give you my pillow" - I never let you into my bed, an intimate and personal space. I never let you see the place where I rest my head, my thoughts, etc. "I only send you my invitations" - leading someone on into a relationship, a friendship, whatever, but not having intentions to make it that kind of relationship, or someone backing out of an already established friendship or relationship. Not letting whatever it is get past a certain point. Only sending invitations, not showing up, not intending to follow through. "And in the middle of the celebrations, I break down." this line just implies the breaking point. Like when you're surrounded by a bunch of ridiculously happy people and you're drinking, you're bound to hit a breaking point if you're going through a hard time. And carry that weight means the burden that's felt when you're constantly trying to protect yourself from being hurt by setting limits and pushing away. This interpretation has nothing to do with The Beatles as a band, but it's what I thought of the first time I ever heard it. |

Okay, I think this is about wanting something for a long time (let's say for love to be reciprocated, for example) and there's something in the way of you attaining what you want, but you do it anyway. "Don't get any big ideas, it's not gonna happen" = don't even think about it "you paint yourself white and fill up with noise, but there'll be something missing" = I can't quite decipher what painting yourself white and filling yourself up with noise is referring to, but I think the basic idea is that you do other things to distract from this thing you can't have, but nothing is enough - feeling vulnerable, empty. "Now that you've found it, it's gone Now that you feel it, you don't You've gone off the rails" When you get what you want despite whatever is in the way, you don't want it anymore. Now that you've experienced it, you're over it. Maybe when you're away from it you're convinced you want it again? This drives you mad. You want more, but at the same time you feel nothing. Maybe you're just obsessed with the idea of this thing, instead of the actual thing OR feeling nothing could just be a way of protecting yourself Then - "you'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking" - I think is just you punishing yourself for even wanting the thing you can't have, when obviously the circumstances make it wrong or impossible. kind of just like rejecting yourself. as jenny lewis would say, "And it's just, my heart gets rejected by my veins." but also I feel like it's a little ironic, because the "you" in the song (especially if you look at the lyrics for Big Ideas (Don't Get Any)) he has sex with someone so it seems he acted on what his dirty mind is thinking, so does the protagonist of the song care anymore at this point? |

Sorry....just a few corrections...This is what you'll find on the recorded version (i.e. iTunes)word for word. Well you dawned on (is this, "done done"?) me and you bet I felt it I tried to be chill but you so hot that I melted I fell right through the cracks Now I'm tryin to get back Before the cool done run out i'll be givin it my bestest and nothin's gonna stop me but divine intervention I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some But i won't hesitate no more, no more It cannot wait, I'm yours Well, open up your mind and see like me Open up your plans and damn you're free Look into your heart and you'll find love love love love Listen to the music of the moment people dance and sing We're just one big family and it's our God-forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved loved So I won't hesitate no more, no more It cannot wait I'm sure There's no need to complicate Our time is short This is our fate, I'm yours [scat] Do you wanna come on, scooch on over closer dear and I will nibble your ear [scat] Ohhh...Mmmhmmhmmm I've been spendin' way too long checkin' my tongue in the mirror, and bendin' over backwards just to try to see it clearer But my breath fogged up the glass And so i drew a new face and laughed I guess what i'm a sayin' is there ain't no better reason to rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons It's what we aim to do Our name is our virtue But I won't hesitate no more, no more It cannot wait, I'm yours Well, open up your mind and see like me Open up your plans and damn you're free Look into your heart and you'll find that the sky is yours So, please don't, please don't, please don't there's no need to complicate 'cause our time is short This-oh-This-oh-This is our fate I'm yours |

| Remy Zero – Fair Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I think this song is not personifying hope, but I do think it's about a woman who the guy who's singing the song is in love with, but she's in an abusive relationship. Her decision to leave him took too long and maybe the guy who's singing moved on before she decided to leave the abusive guy...but now he wants her. So, he's kind of stuck there. but i dont know. that's just my interpretation. |
