I don't think it's mean at all. It's just him being sorry that he doesn't love her. He wishes he could do that for her, but knows it's wrong to stay with her. But he knows she's lovable...and how much more comforting is that? |

oooo...this is such a bittersweet song. It reminds me of all the time right after a break up in a relationship. When you're awake, you can be fine without the person, becuase you build an emotional wall-- nothing can touch you. But then that wall is torn down so quickly when you go to sleep, because they are always there. You have no control over reliving lost memories. They are good memories, but they only hurt now. |

I just wanted to comment on the lyric "Laughter like a language I once spoke with ease" It's so true about so many different areas of your life...isn't it true it was eaiser to laugh when you were young, or at the beginning of new things? (meeting someone for the first time, for example) It makes me happy and sad at the same time, thinking that once we lose our ignorance we are less able to laugh freely. Anyhoo, something that definiteyl made me think. And that's just one line! |

This is the BEST breakup song. I think it means that no matter what anyone says to try to comfort you, it's no match for the pain you feel. And you try not to think about it, but other people's happiness only reminds you of what you've lost. I especially like the line "I'm always closing my eyes and wishing I'm fine" because it's so true...you try to trick yourself into thinking you don't care, when really, it's all that matters. |

yeah I think it is def. about having loved and lost, and not being bitter about it. It's true what Jason says...if you really love someone you still hope they find happiness even if it isn't with you. It's a beautiful song with a optimistic attitude. |
