There's a bootleg of the unfinished 2nd album floating around. All the tracks from it are on here if anyone's interested:

Abermike, I agree he's jumping on the bandwaggon, though I'd like to believe those are views that he holds too. I'm not sure about the lies, gossip and rumour though.
I should point out — I am anti-war.
As for the song, the meaning is fairly clear… in fact I doubt it could be any less subtle without the lyric "war war go away" or something. Such a lyric probably wouldn't be out of place amongst this dire collection of cliché and primary school rhyming.
I'm a huge fan of the Roses and I quite like Ian Brown's solo stuff as a whole, but it seems these days his "God like genius" may have abandoned him. I just hope the rest of the new album is better than this pile of bollocks.
Just my opinion on the matter anyway. |

I find it hard to believe nobody's commented on this song — easily one of The Verve's finest.
Not sure about the lyrics though, maybe a reference to the butterfly effect? The opening line seems to suggest that anyway.
Either way, killer song, killer guitar riff. If you can call it a riff… more of a cavernous roar… now if I could only find a tab… |

One of their finest (but most cryptic lyrically) songs.
I can't agree with the Stone Roses comparisons though as a big Stone Roses fan — The Stone Roses were never this dark and much more "accessible". This is brilliantly moody and atmospheric… maybe a better comparison would be the Verve's early stuff? Seems slightly Gravity Grave-esque to me.
Anyway, I digress… I don't actually know what the lyrics mean. |

Sorry HawkBoy, I'm almost 100% the version on here's right (except for "heavy little lovers," which I think is meant to be the same as in the first verse.
Anyway, great Rock 'n' Roll tune — not quite sure what the lyrics mean though. |

Thank god somebody's posted the lyrics for this, they're nearly impossible to make out on the song.
Sadly I'm not really sure what the lyrics mean.. pretty abstract stuff. |

Seems like the first verse of this puts the rest of the song into context. "How can we win when fools can be kings" and "I'll show you a god falls asleep on the job" has got to be about Blair & Bush. "Don't waste your time or we will waste you" - maybe about the whole American "way" of do as we do or we'll blow you to pieces. The rest of the song is a call not to just sit by and watch the fuckwits in power ruin the world and to take or action or "fight for our lives" to "make things right". |

| Ocean Colour Scene – The Circle Lyrics

Aparently this was written about the number 11 bus route (a circular) around Birmingham and how every day is the same routine doing the same thing. I think the song is sort of a pondering on what's in the wider world "and I feel like I'm on the outside of the circle" (as far as I know the lyrics are THE circle and not A circle). Also, Mosely Shoals was the second album, their first album was self titled. |

I think the whole taking control of your life and moving on thing might be about how he's moved on from the stone roses. Maybe aimed at John Squire? A few links to Stone Roses songs there "Now you're at the wheel, tell me how, how does it feel" - Waterfall; "heavens gates won't hold me, i sold those suckers down" - Breaking into heaven. Looks like Ian's still quite bitter about the whole incident. |

Why has noone commented on this before me?! This is one of the most awesome tracks I've ever heard. John Squire is one of the most underrated guitarists around and the killer riffs on the track just make it utter perfection... as for the lyrics I have no idea! |

Think I remember hearing somewhere that Grant Nicholas wrote Buck Rogers for some American band but they never ended up using it and the lyrics wern't really written to mean anything but I love this song, one of their best :-D |

I'm fairly sure this song's about Jon Lee who was Feeders drummer until he committed suicide in 2001 due to marital problems. I think the song trys to empathise with what he must have been feeling at the time and tries to give a reason to his death. |
