| Well if any of you are familier with the Smiths at all, then you'd know who Johnny Marr is and you'd be able to hear the influence he had on this song. This is where some of the poppy kind of dancy feel is coming from, Marr. Personally I love this song and can't get enough of it; and no i'm not one of those people who loves good news, infact i hate it but i respect brocks decision to experiment. I welcome this sound whole heartidly as both a major fan of the smiths and modest mouse. so everyone suck it up, if brock recorded it he likes it and that's all that matters. | |

"am i the only one that does this or does anyone else like walking around outside in the semi-cold of a clear autmn day listening to this song or any song by american football for that matter? ... this song makes me think of days where the light from a sunset makes everything that really really cool shade of orange and casts long shadows across the streets, with the frigid breezes blowing your hair back and making your nose cold while you just sit and ponder about the beauty and serenity(?) of those quiet autmn afternoons..." I do that too, infact fall is my favorite season, I look forward to it all year and mourn it's passing everyyear as well. There is nothing better. |

| yeah, maybe the dogs stand for death, perhaps the narrator was sick but his dog ran away and ended up joining the pack. his father was trying to figuratively shoot death away from his daughter who ended up getting sick and dying but the narrator lived. the mother has cried and grieved too much over almost losing the son and then actually losing the daughter and the father ended up having a mental breakdown and getting fired, but he would have quit anyway. the dogs though did no harm because death is apart of life and is not neccecarily evil. by this time though the narrator just wants death to come get him because right now death is better than being with his demoralized and devistated parents...he will instead be with his sister in heaven. perhaps though there is another higher meaning to the song i am missing at the moment though. | |

When I listen to this song I can't help but feel sad because I think it is about a kid who's parents just died and he is sort of narrating different parts of his life. The first verse is about the funeral. The line "All around me are familiar faces" could mean his relatives and the lines "And their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression" is just a description of what the people around him are doing...crying and staring off into space because of the disbelief of what happened. The first stanza of the second verse couldbe about his siblings celebrating their birthdays to keep their mind of what happened and they could feel "like every child should" The second stanza is about him in his new school. No one knows him but he is just their to learn anyway. |

| At first when I heard this song I thought it was a goofy funny song but as I listened to it more I have stepped beyond that conclusion. I actually think it is about not being accepted in society or by your friends because of your beliefs. Being ridiculed for something you either can't help like like homosexuality or just a belief in general. | |

| In my opinion this song is overproduced and well it doesnt sound very smith like. It is probably my least favorite song and when listening to Meat is Murder I often skip this track. All in all it's just not on par with other smiths songs and is too commercial. | |

I think most everyone hear has been interpreting the lyrics to literally. The some girls are bigger than others really means some girls are bigger emotionally or tolerance. Like being able to withstand being away from there lover for an extended period of time. The line "There is but one concern" probabaly means he is concerned that some girls arent well big enough. I love this song though especially the guitar at the end but one thing that annoys me is how the song briefly fades at the beginning. |
