The National – Abel Lyrics 20 years ago
Okay, I always thought he was saying "My mind's not a wreck," which is pretty much the same meaning as "My mind's not right," but I like the line "not a wreck" better than what it's posted on here. Personally. I don't know all the words off the top of my head, so I figured I'd wait until they're all here for me to try to analyze anything.

At the Drive-In – Rascuache Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song isn't about a relationship at all, really. I think it's about a person that's hiding in layers of protection. Look at all of the lines that would explain that:

1. fences with switches, turn them on
2. the moats of your hopes poured salt on these slugs
3. tourniquet of gossip on a board of checkered chess
4. salt ring probing in case of emergency

1 is obvious, she's putting up her defenses. 2 is another layer, she's hiding from reality in her hopes and dreams, and is insulting and seperating herself from the regular folk, or something, hard to say exactly who the slugs are. 3 is cutting off more reality with a tourniquet, using gossip to spread lies and make herself believe that she's right about something or other. 4 is probably her group of friends or something finding out what's going on.

The chorus seems to be about the girl, or at least one part of the girl that wants to know the truth. Second verse, second half seems to refer to everyone being fed up with her lies and coming after her. The final verse seems to be about the girl coming out, and while she's pretty on the exterior, everyone knows she's dirty and disgusting on the inside. So the title makes perfect sense, because her personality is ugly and unpleasant. 2nd ATDI song that has made sense to me. See, I prefer The Arcade Fire. They make sense lyrically, but ATDI is really cool.

At the Drive-In – Metronome Arthritis Lyrics 20 years ago
This is the first ATDI song that's ever made immediate sense to me. The only TMV song I get is Televators. I dunno, Cedric, his lyrics are nuts, but they're so talented. At first when I read the line about the magnet and tape, I knew he was talking about hiding a crime, and other lines connect to that. So the initial part seems to be about doing the crime, arson, duh, and the next about getting rid of some of the evidence, and the anxiety of the narrator. The next part seems to me to be spreading of false evidence and then running away, with that line about zip codes. The pharmeceutical line is referring to drugs taken for calmness, and how the narrator realizes that it's getting him nowhere. Then it's more about anxiety and drugs, and the fingernails too short probably refers to biting fingernails, and that he's doing it out of fear. And the detectives will find him. Well, that's what I thought. It made sense to me to think of it that way.
