I think it's about finally getting over someone. He said at first when this girl left he was a mess. Turning to drink. He missed her and got depressed and wasted his days away. She took everything from him. Now he realises she was not worth it and is saying goodbye - In a fuck you way. I think the mention of drugs is just simply about using as a coping method. Drowning his sorrows. Not necessarily about giving up drink/drugs. He probably would have stopped drinking so much once he got over this person, but I don't think that's what the actual song is about. I think he just opened his eyes one day and was able to face what had happened and saw she wasn't worth it. Then he probably wrote this song and got on with life, haha. |

" this is just me but whenever matt sings 'at least were still alive', it always sounds like he's going to (even wants to) sing 'at least were still in love' " I agree. But maybe it just sounds better. I usually say love in my head, even if it is wrong. I think this song is about drugs. The wings I see as a metaphor for getting high. I think it could be about watching your friend be ruined from drugs, but there's nothing you can do and it's up to them to get better. It could go either way. Though I have no idea about the fireside/maple thing. |

It's not about war like that, even though we all have different interpretations so no one is wrong I think Matt just got on his soapbox and got carried away. Moving on... I think it's pretty simple. I agree with what most people are saying. That the song is saying being shy is okay but don't let it stop you from doing what you want to do because you'll miss out on things. If it is about a relationship- or not, it's true a bomb or time of crisis will bring them together because it brings you out of your shell, the shy person would realise life's too short to sit around missing out on things and it will be like a reality check. Pretty simple. Ask me..? I think that they like eachother, and possibly both are shy. One is hoping the other will ask them out or something like that. But doesn't want to pressure them. Though it is pretty obvious that they like eachother so there is nothing to fear. Except shyness :) |

wow, this sounds like Love's Requiem. Especially the pace of the chorus. The start sounds like a 69eyes song.. Lyrics are a bit cliche for my liking. But the meaning of the song? I thought I had it figured out but I just re-read the lyrics and am now confused. Haha so I'll get back to you on that. |
