you people are crazy - the shins' new music is just as good as their old stuff. so... i'm not entirely sure where you're getting all of this. but whatever. while this isn't my favorite song on the new album, i do think it's well-done and definitely nothing like my bloody valentine or linkin park [who are both not very good bands... but okay]. |

one of the prettiest songs of all history -
hands down.
and one of my personal favorites.
i have no idea why no one else has commented on this. |

okay... first off, what on earth does sexual orientation have to do with this song whatsoever? this song is absolutely beautiful, and it makes me cry every time i hear it.
it reminds me of a break-up i had with a boyfriend - my first serious one. we loved each other, and it ended terribly. now we both act as though we could care less - and every lyric of this song is exactly how i feel about it.
so i guess that's just my take on it. |

this song is amazing. i personally was in a relationship that recently ended and it kind of sucked because it was kind of a forced ending to it. obviously i got over it. but this is definitely what i was feeling. |

oh man. have you ever heard a song and had to replay it over & over until you've listened to it near 30 times? that was the case for me with this song.
"Since I don't have time nor mind
To figure out the nursery rhymes
That helped us out in making sense of our lives."
this clearly speaks of religion to me. the stories of the Bible are very much like nursery rhymes, comforting things to make us feel better, but their reality is doubted. I think this song is about leaving religion forever, letting go of our childish comforts and living life right without worrying about pleasing someone else. ha I don't know, just what I think.
and what a wonderful song, really. my favorite shins song by far. |

wow, I was so surprised that no one commented on this song. this song means so much to me, I love it. in my mind, it's about an abusive relationship - breaking a person until they become something they never were. all in all... amazing. |

this song means so much to me, oh gosh. it is one of those things that you know you'll probably never forget no matter if you try or not, and i don't know why anyone would ever want to forget the words of this song. it talks about so many things that we go through in life: our childhood friendships, newfound romances, and lastly our final requests before we pass on. i'd probably say that the thing that most inspires me about this song is its interpretation of heaven. the whole section where he's talking to the other people who have passed on and they're telling him about his love, how she's doing, everything like that was just amazing. graffiti on the gates of heaven. i don't think i've heard a more wonderful song in all my life. |
