Austin Mayse – Kansas Lyrics 12 years ago
Kansas holds the country together. It's in the middle, and it sucks so much that the states stay together and none of them fall into the ocean.

That's more or less the gist here. :o

Metallica – St. Anger Lyrics 18 years ago
Did Kirk Hammett even show up to the studio for this album?

I could have just as easily been on the axe for this. Doesn't matter since all you hear is the drums and James Hetfield.

I'd say download this....but Lars will come after you and smash his snare drum over your head.

Oh....and remember when Metallica could write heavy lyrics without going Fred Durst on us and saying "fuck" four or five times in a verse? I also remember when the Rubik's Cube was new and fun...

The Urge – S.L.O.B. Lyrics 18 years ago
This song was about a riot of sorts that broke out at an early Urge show in San Luis Obispo, California in the late '80s. Steve Ewing (singer for The Urge) was jailed in the aftermath.

The acronym in the song title is for "San Luis Obispo Brawl."

The reference to "San Luis" in the song is to that city, rather than the band's hometown of St. Louis.

Good take SDMFBLS; and hence Heaven's not overflowing.

One of my favorite COC tracks...

The Von Bondies – C'mon C'mon Lyrics 18 years ago
Jack White's attack on Jason Stollsteimer gave a sort of retroactive new meaning (the song existed before that fight) regarding "blood" and "wounds." But no, that's not what the song is about.

Ice Cube – It Was A Good Day Lyrics 18 years ago
See, gangsta rap can be positive after all.

Nobody Cube knew got killed, and he didn't have to kill anyone. He got drunk, stoned and laid. It was a good day.

Helmet – Unsung Lyrics 18 years ago
"The worst song on Radio X."

Like hell it is.

As if this song didn't kick ass before San Andreas existed.

This is one of the few Helmet songs that have true lyrical meaning to me. It's about being underappreciated and walked over, then cast aside upon speaking out. I've been there before.

Helmet – In the Meantime Lyrics 18 years ago
The lyrics have little meaning. This is just vintage Helmet - heavy and uncompromising.

I had this blaring while packing up to evacuate from a hurricane (which didn't hit where I was after all), and then in the car as I got in the parking lot that is normally a highway. The track just sounds like impending doom and destruction.

PS-"Help spread right" is actually "Help me spread right, ash is..."

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Let It Dive Lyrics 18 years ago
Ocean Soul has the correct lyrics to this song.

Never before have I heard a song at a time that communicated exactly what I was feeling at the time.

However...there was a happier ending.

Deftones – Minerva Lyrics 19 years ago
A sort of alternate (if morbid) interpretation:

I can see it as a sort of poetic suicide note of a man whose (insert wife/girlfriend/etc. status here) dumped him. He had come to love her to the point he lived only for her - she became a goddess to him. That stripped away, he makes peace with everyone on earth as he takes his own life - death comes as the guitars go silent except for the quiet notes with which the song begins.

Faith No More – Epic Lyrics 19 years ago
Patton has tended to give surrealistic explanations for what's behind his songs. I think most of the lyrics in "Epic" is to a degree a "throwaway" song (in the vein of Nirvana's "On A Plain" - or most anything Cobain wrote for that matter) but this song has a little meaning in it. It's about underacheiving and underacheivers - be it from drugs, general laziness, getting in trouble with the man, whatever.

Patton also has been quoted as saying that "Midlife Crisis" is about (not casually linked to or inspired by, but directly about) Madonna. If you really believe that, I have Mike's original manuscript of this song for sale, $500, and I take money orders or Paypal.

I believe Mike Patton and Faith No More want us to find whatever we get out of their music and lyrics. This is perhaps the most creative popular music act of the MTV age, and that's not even considering the videos.

PS-This song is actually about smoking crack and worshipping Satan, as is every rock 'n roll song ever written. Think. For. Yourselves.

Faith No More – From Out Of Nowhere Lyrics 19 years ago
It's never easy. You want her, but you can't have her.

I think we've all been here before, haven't we guys?

Filter – Cancer Lyrics 19 years ago
"What seems important won't last forever."

We're the consummate consumer society, we Americans.

A wedding or prom dress. A new car to trade in three years from now. A new CD that'll end up in the used bin.

I had to replace ToR and that's where I found it. It's staying in my collection for good, and this song is one of the reasons why.
