I don't think there's too much mystery in this song, just wanted to supply a lyric correct, IMO: The line "God knows it's a shame" I think should be "Got no sense of shame" |

girl_afraid, the CD of A Rush of Blood to the Head lists who the Scientist is. I think it's on the last page of the booklet. It doesn't mention the band's relationship to him, though. I don't remember the name, just that it was a him. The CD's at home now, otherwise I'd post it here. I think this song is about redemption and having your eyes opened. The singer think about things logically, perhaps too logically. But he realizes "Questions of science, Science and progress, Did not speak as loud as my heart," The line "I'm going back to the start", to me means that he's trying to begin again. He's learned from his mistakes and hope for another chance. |

I'm a bit late contributing here, but I've loved this song for years. I agree with those who think the song is about unrequited love of some sort. Person A loves person B. But person B is "waiting" for person C. Person A feels "lost" because he/she crossed the line with person B. I have to admit though, that (as another poster pointed out), I'm not sure about the song title. Perhaps it's person A feeling trapped in "his place", not being able to break out? |
