This song is definitely about heroin, I agree with "Idied" (well, luckily I didn´t). Even Brian himself sometimes makes fun about it on concerts that so many people take it as a love song, it really is not. I don´t know where you got the story with his suicidal girlfriend, but the sweet prince is the drug itself. Dragon is a nickname for smack (heroin) which works virtually as a very strong pain killer (chase all the pain away). Fix is also an expression for a dose of drug one needs or for the proccess of applying this dose (mostly by shooting up) "to fix yourself." Close up the hole in my vain - that´s clear. Actually, people on withdrawal can often feel "almost physically" the vains´ hunger for the drug. Never thought you'd make me perspire - intense hot and cold perspiration is one of the most common withdrawal symptoms (when you have to "abstain"). And that all drugs can fuck with your brain, that´s more than clear. Still I have to recognize all the other interpretations because that´s what is beautiful on music and lyrics - that everybody can find his own personal meaning in a song, take from it exactly what you feel, what links to your personal life experiences... and understand & enjoy it in your special way. | Ehm, I think I might be able to help with "the cigarette burns on my chest" part. As I know Brian has had a serious drug problem, concretely with smack, and many of Placebo songs contain information (or more likely hidden suggestions) about heroin... All long-time users who smoke cigarettes must have done it at least once - to fall asleep with lighted cigarette in their hand. Some people do it permanently and have burns everywhere - in their sofas, t-shirts etc... and smack very much helps this situation to happen, much more than for ex. alcohol or other drugs. "Burns on my chest" then in my opinion refers to a certain period in his life when he maybe used to hang out with this girl and do smack... and it was very relaxed so they would sometimes fall asleep with their cigarettes in the hand... I don´t know, maybe it´s completely wrong, but this is what I picture in my head while listening to this song. | |
