Anthrax – Safe Home Lyrics 19 years ago
To the person who went on a biblical rant, I'm sorry to say, but this isn't about Christianity or any God. Actually, I'm not sorry to say it since I'm not religious. It's so true that people believe what they want to believe - it applies to everything, including music, like you did when you referred to this song being about God. It may be so for you because that's what your mind wants to believe, but if you stand back and don't read too far between the lines, all it's really about is someone finding solace in someone (or something) else that has always been there and has rarely let him down when he needs them the most. Most of us have our safe home.. the song is perfectly straight-forward.

Before you consider backlashing and looking further in to something's meaning than need be, consider the part in the lyrics of this AWESOME song where the vocalist sings "My only God is Love". You're an eternal optimist (or incredibly short-sighted) if you truly believe that this is referring to a Jewish/Christian/Islamic God of Abraham. All that means is that if there's one thing he follows and lives by, is addicted to, or idolizes, it's Love. That addictive, more-harm-than-good emotion that can't be explained or cured.

Staind – Fray Lyrics 19 years ago
This song means a lot to me. If Aaron Lewis has(or had) BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder, which I suspect), then this song would be all about what it's like in most areas, and about his journey to recovery.

"I know everything can change, what I need is to open up again" - That's saying to me that recovery is possible through therapy, but first you have to bite the bullet and open up again, no matter how hard it is or you'll never get better.

"Are you satisfied? I've given all I can." - Think we can all relate to this one.. where it feels like nothing you ever do is good enough and you continuously run on empty.

Backtracking in the lyrics a bit...
"I know that it never goes away, all I feel.. everything I'm not today" - Not being able to accept yourself, and hating yourself, blind to all your accomplishments only puts the icing on the cake. BPD people suffer from a "lack of emotional skin". A small insult that most can shrug off is something that those with BPD cannot. The neverending search for perfection and self-acceptance continues...

And about the chorus: I'm thinking that the "lies they sold you" is about religion and most other things that people are suckered in to because they feel the need to believe in something that will make them feel better and more secure. The TV line is straight forward.. watch the news, sit back and either A) Take all the bad, scary news in that they want you to hear (because bad news sells) and convince yourself that the world's a scary place, or B) Turn the TV off and realize that there's always something going bad in the world somewhere and always has been. The world's not getting worse, media coverage is just getting more and more widespread, selling you the bad, evil news that you want to hear to give you some excitement in your life (or to get massive ratings for their show).

I've ranted enough, but back to the song: By the end, it sounds like he's learnt that even the toughest battle can be beaten and that life should be enjoyed, not endured.

Opeth – Hours of Wealth Lyrics 19 years ago
Agreed 100% with likescarrots. I never even remotely linked this song to the thoughts of suicide.. that's just looking WAY too deep into the lyrics. I like this song's message, and there are quite a few people out there who have drifted off somewhere alone for a while to "renew" themselves, find their purpose and come back fired-up.
Ultimately I think this song is about burning-out, finding some sort of solace, having an epiphany, and coming to the realization that he has to step out of his comfort zone and make some serious adjustments to his life to bring some light back into it. Hours of Wealth = Serious Productive/Constructive alone time to help better your life, no more beating around the bush, and kicking old bad habits.

I honestly can't see how you could derive religion from a song like this. I used to be religious once, until I did my homework and found out it was nothing but mythical-storytelling bullshit. Take care now.

Saybia – Fools Corner Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is brilliant. I love everything about it. It's one of those songs regarding the moment after a break-up with someone you've worked extremely hard with to make the relationship work, only to find out they don't want to put in the effort anymore, leaving you with the realization that without them, you are empty and feel of no value to anyone else.

Another break-up song basically, except this one actually kicks ass. If you don't like it, you're either very selfish or you've never experienced that crap before.

Awesome song. Highly recommended.

Dope – Kimberly's Ghost Lyrics 20 years ago
This song IS great. Couldn't get it out of my head when I first heard it since I can relate to it so well. My best guess, for all it's worth (and based on the fact I don't know much about 'Dope'), is that it's about an ex-girlfriend the singer used to date. They fought when together, causing each other nothing but grief, once they split up though he and/or she realized they couldn't live without one another.

...A typical relationship in other words :P
