I agree this is a hard song to break down...but it's still one of my favs from the cd. The way I see it is, he was infatuated (maybe to the point he might have thought he was in love) with this girl for probably only a brief time (probably met at a party hince the second verse). They had a one night stand (in his car apparently). The gun was a metaphor for the control she had over him, and the bullet in the head was basically her leaving and not contacting him again and him left by himself, or something like that. |

| I hate how this always happens...All my favorite "unknown" bands end up blowin up all over the "scene." Then everyone talks like their the band's biggest fans. What us who have liked them before they were on MTV or even had a CD out? I agree with a lot of the comments made so far they seem to me to be right. One thing i noticed was that the stanza Someone old No one new Feeling borrowed always blue Someone old No one new Always borrowed Always you is that "Old" "New" "Borrowed" and "Blue are used repeatedly and as u might know when u get married the bride is supposed to have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Im not sure how it would tie in to the overall mood of the song, maybe its just a coincedence but i found it odd. |

First of all this is a great song written by an even greater band. Next i think the song is talking about that awkward time whey ur younger like in 8th or 9th grade when boys are going through puberty "all the boy's voices cracking" and are in love with the beautiful girls and kissing is a really big step for them. and i agree with brightonhockey's comment that "come summertime we're all the same age here" means that during the summer it doesnt matter what grade ur in. and the whole thing about "im going straight to hell" could be about the lust thing or something similar like all the perverted things that go through a testosterone filled pubesent boy's mind when hes thinking about a girl he likes. which could also make reference to the line "all the possibility and promise just weighs on me so heavily". and i also agree with jbaker when he wrote "The whole chorus is more of him idolizing her basically. It's weird for them to talk/be around each other because of his feelings, but even though they might not have the greatest conversations, he's hanging on her every word. I think the "We're so much better off than them" line is the way he views their possible relationship." the boy is probably so enthused about just talking to this girl it wouldnt matter to him what they said he would still think it was the most important conversation ever held in all of time. and the whole "and whether we're supposed to or not, we still will" is just about them actually making out whether they were meant to be together or not cause come on everybody's been at a party where u made out with a girl/guy u might not know very well just cause ur at a party were others r doing it and u think the other person is hot. but neway this is just what i always thought the song was about either way S.R. rocks \m/ |
