| Ani DiFranco – Tiptoe Lyrics

himtopia, i'm sure i don't need to tell you that that is your own opinion about abortion and it is clearly not the same one that ani holds.
i think the "uninvited blood and tissue" comment might make people think that it's about rape, but i took it to mean that the child was just unplanned. it seems if she were raped, there would be more references to it. |

| Sleater-Kinney – Rollercoaster Lyrics

i thought this song was just about a progression of a relationship for the worst. you wish you can go back, but things change "appetites" change... and then there really isn't any going back. |

| Sleater-Kinney – The Ballad of a Ladyman Lyrics

i think it's about the pressures put on women in the male-dominated music industry and dealing with the idea of how female artists should be. because they refuse to be "demure" they are seen as ladymen. |

i heard somewhere that this is about corin and carrie's breakup and that corin cheated on her, but i don't know how true that is... it could just be speculation based on this song. "don't say another word about the other girl..." |

| Switchfoot – The Shadow Proves The Sunshine Lyrics

i think the saying "the shadow proves the sunshine" is more a comment on how if we didn't have pain and sorrow sometimes, how would we ever know love and how good it is? without any comparison, you'd never appreciate it. |

| Sleater-Kinney – Start Together Lyrics

the singer is frustrated with their lover because they're unsure about the relationship."if you want, your eyes could open up"
this song seems almost like a threat or a wake up call, telling them what is going to happen if they go.. "i'll head out the fences, head out the door" |

| Sleater-Kinney – Memorize Your Lines Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
i think they're both acting/lying(memorize yr lines). the main character is obviously in love but settling for less because the object of her desire is unsure and does not return the feelings.
she's at war with herself because she knows the truth but the love she feels keeps her from doing what she knows she needs to. the one she loves is stringing her along and it's not enough to keep her happy. |

carrie is a lesbian. corin and janet aren't (except that corin and carrie were together in the beginning of s-k) if i'm not mistaken(which i could be) i believe that carrie writes the lyrics, or the majority of them anyways... |

| Sleater-Kinney – What's Mine Is Yours Lyrics
| 20 years ago

i don't know if this is what s-k was going for when they wrote it, but for me it seems to be about being gay in a small town. it's obviously a couple, but everyone seems to be against them. "tell me honey, cuz you look so blue. just how did they, did they get to you?" and also the line "did you ever get the feeling that you don't belong?" but the line that really drew that to my attention was the "come on darling, let's hang around. let's wreck their precious, their perfect town" it's talking about running away from something (persecution?) but then it ends sorta saying, let's hang around and face it cuz we're in this together. "and it's either run or fight"
i think that calling it a "dirty shame" or a "waste of time" is what other people say and in the end she's just sort of like fuck you, i'm going to do it anyways
just my thoughts... if that's not it, i have no idea. |
