The song seems to be about how damaging it is to grow up. You were a child, crawling on your knees towards eventual maturity. You are great as a child, happier and better and more truly you than you will ever be again; you make your momma so proud. But those who have already fallen still try to "improve" you towards their mold; but your voice is too loud. Look also at the video. The quotes at the beginning from Neitzsche and Twain refer to how interacting with the damaged runs the risk of damaging you back. All the "monsters" are really nothing but dramatizations of adults going about normal adult activities. The child finds security only in playing out in nature by himself, being himself; and Mom...then at the end of the video in the cartoon it's Mom who ultimately devours him. Control yourself. Take only what you need from it. Do what you have to do to survive in the world, but don't let your desire for all the "benefits" of growing up cause you to make so many concessions to the adult world that it turns you into just one of the other monsters. |
