Soul Asylum – Runaway Train Lyrics 18 years ago
When you listen to the first verse, it is being sung in a past tense. The rest of the song shifts to present tense. Because of this I feel it has been sung in a retrospective way, showing all of the emotion the singer heaped on his friend when he was at his lowest. It's almost a thank you to someone who has helped him through his darkest hour. I agree with the nuerous people who say that it gives a sense of overwhelming hoplessness when you listen to it, almost as if the guy has made such a massive f'ck up that there is no worming out of it, and rather than face his problems head on, rightly or worngly he'd be better off just disappearing into the night.

Bon Jovi – These Days Lyrics 19 years ago
Antmann nad Manker are both wrong here. It's in fact a reference to The Who's legendary drummer Keith Moon who died suddenly in his sleep at the age of 32 in 1978. If you listen to the way this line at the end of the verse is sung, he says 'I guess I'd rather die than f-f-fade away'. This is a direct reference to the Who's 'My Generation', which includes the lines 'why don't you all just f-f-fade away' and 'I hope I die before I get old', hopefully you see how this ties in with the theme in this verse of the song, and not with Cobains suicide note.

The Housemartins – Build Lyrics 19 years ago
Of course it isn't pointless. The point of the song, along with a lot of the Housemartins stuff, is that the everyday, hardworking guy who puts his neck on the line day in day out, is never able to do enough to get so much as a bit of appreciation from the suits who tell them what to do. That ino matter how hard poeple work, people always want more. The Housemartins were a very 'anti-establishment' type band. Just look at the lyrics to this song, The People who Grinned Themselves to Death, Sheep and Happy Hour to name but four.

Yep it is. It's also Paul Heaton and Dave Welch's band before the Beautiful South were formed.

The Housemartins – Happy Hour Lyrics 19 years ago
Rather than being out with bosses in particular, I think it is more to do with a group of Yuppies/Middle class people drinking whose idea of a good time is taking their boss out for a pint. Peopel who think they are blending in by drinking in a more traditionl pub 'the fire is real and the barman is a she', but they are actually sticking out like a sore thumb with their antics of flashing money to the knowledge of everyone and belittleing chat about women.

Paolo Nutini – These Streets Lyrics 19 years ago
For a start the lyrics are wrong.

The chorus should say 'I'm used to Glenfield Rd and spending my time down in Ochy', meaning the Oakshaw area of Paisley, where PN is from.

Cracking song. It's about the transition from the relative quiet surroundings of Paisley, a large town of around 80,000 people, to London which has close to 12 million living in the city limits. And how he can't get to grips with how big a difference the two respective places pose to him. Paisley is what he is used to, London is what he must adapt to.

Agreed. Very spookily prophetic. This was the first thing I thought of when I heard Proof had been killed.

Vanilla Ice – Ice Ice Baby Lyrics 20 years ago
The crime of ripping off a piece of Classic Queen, and turning it into a worthless steaming pile of shit like this song should be punishable by Death to Vanilla Ice.

To claim the beat as is own, is a totally seperate crime, and should be punishable by pissing on his twitching carcass after he had been executed for his first crime.

Queen – A Winter's Tale Lyrics 20 years ago
To write a song about the beauty of life and with such a positive outlook on life, when he was obviously so close to death and ravaged in such pain, then to haul himself into the studio to record it, is a true testament to the sort of man Freddie Mercury was.

A showman to the end.

Queen – The Show Must Go On Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is so many things in under 4 and a half minutes.

It's uplifting, sad, overwhelming, emotional, inspirational, it makes you sympathetic towards Freddies plight. Most of all though, it is unique. There is no song anywhere else that sounds like it. It's almost it's own genre of song.

I love it, it's like he's saying he knows he's going to die, but he's accepted it, and won't roll over and let AIDS take him. It will have to take him down fighting.

It's probably along with 'These Are The Days of Our Lives', the saddest song I have ever heard. Yet at the same time, it psyches you up and uplifts you a bit.
