This song starts off by listing examples of those who have strayed from faith, showing how the narrator feels these are his new companions after his own straying from faith. In the first paranthesized section, I think its almost like the thought of God is pressing increasingly more heavily upon him, almost sufficating him with the thought of his misguidance. He had talked about himself so highly that he set up a stage to fall down from. The narrator states that well meaning actions dont make for good actions. The last paranthesized part is the narrator finally coming to repentance and realizing that all people mess up, yet not outside of the bounds of God's forgiveness. The sun and the moon lines are connected. He wants to see his Father's eyes, as one. He wants to feel in his heart and in his faith the closest connection with God. |

flaming = way mature!! this is also my favorite song by them. I love the way its done, sung the same way the thoughts would occur to a person. I always imagined it(since I have yet to read the book) as a man, confused with his life, sitting in a small room lit only by a television, and the line between reality and dream is blurring. |

This is about a relationship where the speaker feels like the other person betrayed them, and left them. Probably, they feel like they got used, hence "you too the best of me." And since the other person did it voluntarily, "this is what you wanted." The second verse, "though its not what you'd expect." probably describes how they dont view things the same, maybe the heart they once had has been altered due to the break up. I love this song. ^_^ |
