Rush – The Trees Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is not about the battle between the races, genders, or Canada and Britain. This song does not take the side of "maples" in anyway.

Rush lyrics were greatly inspired by Ayn Rand, a favorite of Neal Peart who wrote most of the lyrics. She pioneered the political idea of objectivism, and this song is about an aspect of Objectivism.

This song recognizes that all people are not equal. Some people are endowed with certain rights that others do not have and vice verse. The more we try to artificially create equality by "cutting" the rights of others, the further we move from liberty, freedom, and happiness.

The Oaks are those who "have everything" and the Maples are "the less fortunate" but by cutting the Oaks, no one is helped or happy, only the Oaks are punished for natural placement and Maples feel vindicated, but get nothing out of it.

"Maybe I'm not up for being a victim of love
All my resistance will never be distance enough" caught my attention...i think it means that she isn't up for falling in love again...but she doesn't know if her convitions will be strong enough...its one thing to say you dont want to fall in love...its another to find someone that you coudl lvoe and stay away...and waht if that doesn't work...what if no matter how many walls you build arouns yourself you still feel for that person and they leave? or dissapoint you?

yeah... i dont think that the verses are connected in anyway, except obviously musically...but no matter what it ment to Anna, it means somthing different to all that hear it, and it's powerful...and that is what music is about

Anna Nalick – Breathe (2 A.M.) Lyrics 20 years ago
I personally think that the first verse is possibly about abortion... now i dont know anna...so i cant say that for sure... but i definatly think there is a case for that argument...

But as long as it touches people, it could mean anything...

MY personal favorite part of the song is the second verse... the first time i heard it, i was struck by the lyrics... it was as if the very words were comming from me...to much to explain here, that verse could have literally been written by me...

Anyway i think the whole song is great...hopfully music will move into a more lyrical place after songs like his get big...
