| Bruce Springsteen – Life Itself Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
My favorite song off the Working On A Dream record. I love the beginning of this song. This is as "dark" and "serious" as this album gets. I think this is where The Boss really shines and brings music to another level. "So here's one for the road Here's one to your health And to life itself, rushing over me…" |
|
| Bruce Springsteen – What Love Can Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Fast, quick song, some hard guitar. The boss layin’ down the law about what his love can do. My favorite part is unfortunately at the end when he aggressively hums for the last 6 ½ seconds. Wish it was incorporated more into the chorus of the song, but still overall, a good song. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – My Lucky Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| They hit the nail on the head with a solid single for the Working On A Dream album. I love how they crash right into the song with a reckless feel. Fun song and you can dance to it. A solid, upbeat tune. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Good Eye Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I have been a critic of how they distorted voice in the past (he's got a good voice, why mess with it??), like in Night With a Jersey Devil, but it has grown on me a bit...because of the nature of this song. It's a nice little bluesy song so the distorted voice sorta works and gives it that "rough around the edges" type feel. I like how his voice just like runs off like in pain when saying the word, "run", like he's desperate for something. One of my favorite lyrics from this album: "I had my good eye to the dark and my blind eye to the sun". | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Surprise, Surprise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Says the word "Surprise" 15 times in the first 45 seconds. Happy song, but talk about repetitive, the lyrics are wayyyy too corny for the boss. "Come open your eyes, and let your love shine down" Come on, Bruce, you are better than that. BUT this is #6 on my list because it’s so damn catchy. I find myself singing along with it. It hooks you in, as corny as it may be. It’s a pop song so what else can you expect. I would rather hear this song than Happy Birthday on my special day. This is my favorite birthday song ever. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Outlaw Pete Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Tries to be epic, funny imagery of a baby in diapers talkin’ like a badass. Contains the lyric that I think tries to be the mantra of the Working On A Dream album: Can you hear me? This album’s "Is there anybody alive out there"? (Radio Nowhere). But I like the Radio Nowhere "mantra" better. Random note on this song: They way he pronounces "stop" & "top" in the lyrics: For forty days and nights (biblical referrences) Pete rode and did not stop/Till he sat high upon an icy mountain top) reminds me a lot like the way Jakob Dylan from The Wallflowers sings. Cool connection to Bobby D right there. |
|
| Bruce Springsteen – This Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
A lot like Girls In Their Summer Clothes except I like this song slightly better. This song gets a lot better as it goes along, especially at the end when C jumps in on the fun. But why the end?? Bring him in sooner!! |
|
| Bruce Springsteen – Kingdom of Days Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| KD has a real finality feel to it, as if he’s trying to say something like: "Yep, I’m here, I’m happy…that is it and that is all" I think the older, happily married boss fans will like this song better "We laughed beneath the covers and count the wrinkles and the grays" is a cute and cuddly lyric, but much more applicable to the older crowd. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – The Last Carnival Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| A "dead friend" song, not as good as Terry's Song (bonus track off Magic). I think it's cool how it ties in with Wild Billy's Circus Story, like completing the end of an era. Kind of like My Hometown and Long Walk Home. I’m not really familiar with Wild Billy's Circus Story, but I’m guessing it must have been a Danny specialty, much like Sandy, except no one really cared about it. An odd touch to have the gospel choir-like ending...Danny's ascension into heaven? Eh why not? | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Tomorrow Never Knows Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Should be on his Seeger Sessions album. simple, sweet. It’s like he’s sitting on a stump in the middle of a grassy field just strummin' away. Keep trying with these folk songs though, Boss. Good stuff can come from this. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Working on a Dream Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I can appreciate the positive message he’s trying to send, it has a cool beginning and the whistling blue-collared workers are a nice touch, but other than that...bruce can do much better | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Queen of the Supermarket Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Can’t get over it. Not in a good way. Watching the DVD made me like this song for a few minutes...but just a few. If anyone could pull off a song about a supermarket, it would be The Boss...BUT it is still very difficult. Lyrics that should never be included in a song: A dream awaits in aisle number two… As she bags the groceries her eyes so bored … Each night I take my groceries and I drift away… Take my place in the check-out line … Good for some laughs, but he can’t expect us to take this song seriously (and I think he does, hah) How can you with a song that ends with the beep of a supermarket scanner? Sorry Bruce, but you aren’t 16 years old anymore longing for that cute cashier (or at least i hope not). This is my favorite song about a food store ever, but still, not good. |
|
| U2 – Magnificent Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Atmospheric. People will compare it to Streets but nothing will touch that song. Starts off like sort of a techno song. The buildup in the beginning is the best and they keep that high energy level consistent throughout the whole song. A seem to have a thing for songs that build to a climax like that. More clever word play by Bono when he ties together the words: "Magnify" and "Magnificent". Also more on the infinity theme: In this space and time, After that and ever after Goosebumps. |
|
| U2 – Moment Of Surrender Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The longest and "most likely to be played in a lounge atmosphere" song of the album, (besides Cedars of Lebanon that I consider more of a poem than song) very close to my favorite. Adam is the backbone of so many of their songs, but I think it really sticks out in this one. He sets the dark, mysterious mood with that bass groove. The songs seems to be about that final moment when physical pain recedes, the moment of death? The most crucial part coming when Bono says the body is wishing it were back in a healthy state... To the rhythm of my soul To the rhythm of my consciousness To the rhythm that yearrrrns (a great display of Bono's "opera voice" on yearrrrns and should put to rest any ridiculous rumors that the man’s voice is gone (Conjured up by that moron on that English radio station, I believe, where Bono called in to defend himself. I don’t even know how that’s remotely true. Bono’s vocals are at their usual awesomeness through the whole album.) Looks to be the closest song on the album that brushes up with and a possible "end", and challenges the ongoing infinity theme of the album. An actual line on the horizon? I was punching in the numbers At the ATM machine… (a final withdraw) I was speeding on the subway Through the stations of the cross (nice play on words using another biblical reference) Every eye looking every other way Counting down till the pain will stop I also enjoy Edge's backup vocals, which for some reason I pay more attention to than Bono's lead when they sing: I did not notice the passers by And they did not notice me At 6:15, Edge really hits the guitar taking you by surprise, or as I like to imagine it, ripping the floor out from under you. That’s the Edge taking us for magic carpet ride. |

| U2 – I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I have heard some people call this song the Beautiful Day of the album, but I think it's a lot better than BD. So many great lyrics in this song too. I like how the end of the chorus changes slightly each time (Bono trying to push you from the darkness into the light). Lyrics I enjoy: The right to appear ridiculous is something I hold dear Everybody needs to cry or needs to spit Every sweet tooth needs just a little hit Every beauty needs to go out with an idiot Every generation gets a chance to change the world Pity the nation that won’t listen to your boys and girls (a little jab at the government?) I picture this song being the most sung-along song at a show, so probably making it the "pop" song of the album. The lights and people’s fists pumping in sync to the words: "if I DON'T…GO…CRAZY TONIGHhhht!" Also, The Edge’s solo around 3:00 will hopefully be extended in concert. Awesome. |

| U2 – Fez - Being Born Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The scariest U2 song I've ever heard. Gives you a creepy feeling. I like it. I have no idea what it’s about other than a FEZ being that red hat they wear in African countries. Picks up where Boots left off with that "lost in the sound" echo in the background. Then suddenly into something being born. I’m being born, a bleeding start...Head first, then foot. Really setting a visual there aren't ya, Bono? |
|
| U2 – Unknown Caller Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Edge's guitar at the beginning sounds exactly like Walk On. Lots of technological terms thrown in this song: Speed-dialing with no signal at all… Force quit and move to trash… Restart and re-boot yourself… Password, enter here… You know your name so punch it in Where is this call coming from? Also a very cool part of the song is the horns, with an xylophone, followed by some epic guitar playing by some dude who is awesome. Sounds like a whole orchestra taking turns. Great variations. |
|
| U2 – No Line On The Horizon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh! —Bono. Best part of the song. She said infinity is a great place to start starts of the album establishing the infinity theme that shows out throughout the album. Not structured, endless possibilities… "Time is irrelevant, it’s not linear" (No lines or boundaries to be found here) |
|
| U2 – Breathe Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Bono trying to fight through people's bullshit. Pushes by the door-to-door salesman at the door, trying to ignore his threats of death if you don't pick up what he's putting down. Refusing to buy his cocktoo (ha, funny word). Bono's neverending fight to "stand up" for what he believes in: Every day I have to find the courage To walk out into the street With arms out Got a love you can’t defeat The way Bono "raps" this part reminds me of the part in the movie, Across the Universe where Mr. Kite is singing the Beatles’ song Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite: Nine-oh-nine, St. John Divine on the line, my pulse is fine But I’m running down the road like loose electricity While the band in my head plays a striptease Also, more references of longing to be in the "sound", like in Boots and FEZ-Being Born.. A happy place where you can just let yourself loose and...breathe. A potentially good quick opener for a concert. |
|
| U2 – Stand Up Comedy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Reminds me of a Beatles song. Bono challenging you to stand up for yourself, to think for yourself. God may have given you gifts but it's your challenge to live them out. Funny line at the end, not sure what he's trying to say. Telling us to grow up? lol Stand up, this is comedy The DNA lotto may have left you smart But can you stand up to beauty Dictator of the heart I can stand up for hope, faith, love But while I’m getting over certainty Stop helping God across the road like a little old lady |
|
| U2 – White As Snow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Sweet little song. Definitely has that acoustic potential. Seems to be about longing for a more accepting world. A place where everyone is welcomed and things are pure. Multiple references to lambs (biblical symbol) being as white as snow. Now the wolves are every passing stranger Every face we cannot know If only a heart could be as white as snow Relates to Moment of Surrender on the No Line album with the eyes of the subway looking every other way. In other words, ignoring others and their pain. Everyone’s guilty of this. I ride the T (subway) every day and could care less about the people around me. |
|
| U2 – Get On Your Boots Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The "Vertigo" of this album. Perhaps related to the spiral symbol of HTDAB with Bono screaming that's he's going down in the sound. When I first heard it on the radio, I didn't like it. Wasn't the kind of U2 I enjoyed and it never really grew on me. It was cool to see them perform it on the Grammy's but that's probably just because I was excited to see them on TV. I do, however, enjoy the "Let me in the sound!" chant during the song. Great, strong Larry right there. Laughter is eternity. Goes along with the infinity theme of the album |
|
| U2 – Cedars Of Lebanon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Doesn't do much for me. Bono might as well of just written a poem. It ends the album with a somewhat disturbing, down note. Referring to one’s enemies, Bono says: Gonna last with you longer than your friends. Yikes. | |
| Collective Soul – Welcome All Again Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
How has no one commented on this song?? Best song on the Rabbit album. Possibly their best opening song ever. Actually, forget possibly, I'm saying it IS their best introductory ever. The lyrics aren't as good as other songs on this album, but they are perfect for the kickoff song to get your attention! Just setting the scene with a drink in hand and a nice view hanging out with friends. Plus i always enjoy summer night swimming when i can. Great job on guitar, Joel. It's rare I give a single the best song on the album, but this song is too damn good. Heavy enough, but not too much. And not poppy either. The build up in the middle of the song is key, I'm almost always a fan of songs like that. The new gold standard for an opening song for the band. "Heavy" will have to relinquish that title. |
|
| Collective Soul – Staring Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Ed on keys with the band behind him! For now, he sounds better on keys with the band backing him up, but keep at it, ed! I think he should keep releasing songs like this. Really refreshing. Something off the normal CS trends which is not bad, just different. Gives the band and ed more opportunities in the future. I like this song more and more every time I here it. And of course, Will with his "woo, woo"s. im liking that. Also, on a lot of Ed's pictures (and a lot of pictures of artists trying to be all dramatic) they are looking down to the ground. Kind of a humbling look. Bruce Springsteen is the master of this. | Collective Soul – She Does Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| very good song. pretty simple lyrics...but as usual, Ed gets away with it! some good quick guitar parts in this song. I enjoy the piano version too. Keep working with the keys ed! | |
| Collective Soul – My Days Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Along with "Understanding" probably one of the most interesting lyrical songs on the Rabbit album...and still a solid CS rock song. Ed's retaliation-turned-into-encouragement song for those who think they can judge people. "You is all you know". (considering the song "You" on this album, which i think is referring to God) i think Ed is referring to God in yourself...maybe that's a stretch but something to think about. he is living his life and doing things the way he has learned to know are right. no one but him knows. Ed is telling people to open their eyes! be more open-minded and look at things through other people's eyes "Try some conversation, Grab new information, Change is an indication". Ed's classic "rhyming" with "bigger words"", very an Ed-esque. | |
| DMX – My Niggas Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I agree with DmxrulZ. X seems to have feelings for his friends by the way he refers to them as his "mans and them". By using this phrasing, it projects the notion that his "mans" are more than just his group of friends. They are his gay lovers. They love and care for each other the way a true couple would. They kiss. They hug. They bang. A feeing of sexual dominance is also a strong factor in determining the status of DMX and his man lover or lovers. I also believe that DmxrulZ is one of the most gorgeous men I have ever seen. Peace. | |
| Led Zeppelin – When the Levee Breaks Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It's about Hurricane Katrina and when the levees broke in New Orleans. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – The River Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| One of my favorite Bruce songs ever. I know the song is serious but i just like the line "Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir". Makes me think of some really HOT girl in a bikini just getting out of the water. But then I'm thrown right back into the seriousness of the song when Bruce says "Is a dream a lie if it don't come true, or is it something worse?" Thats my favorite line. Really gets you thinkin'. | |
| Phil Collins – Both Sides Of The Story Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Great message about how we often fail to realize the experiences of others who we just blow aside and ignore. I think Phil is asking everyone to pause, take a step back, and put ourselves in the shoes of the target of our criticism, racism and hatred. We need to see both sides of the story before we judge. On a side note, the line: "while small coffins are lined up sadly, now united in defeat" chillingly reminds me of 9/11 and how the country came together after such a defeat at the hands of terrorism. Obviosuly Phil wrote this song long before 9/11 but I thought I would just throw that out there. |

| Good Charlotte – We Believe Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| ok so i made fun of good charlotte is past posts, but i must admit i like this song. its different from their other songs. it actually says something about the world that i think is worth saying. good melody too. the only lyrics that bugs me is "all the suits and ties"...once again good charlotte is just labeling people they don't like...people who are different than them. and no im not one of those "shirts and ties" so im not bias here. but anyway, its a step in the right direction for these losers | |
| Good Charlotte – The Anthem Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i fuckin' hate good charlotte. all they sing about is how much of losers they are, how they are rebelling against everything and how anyone who isn't like them sucks. WHO CARES?? "uhh guys we're such losers, isn't that cool??!" -good charlotte or any of their freak fans | |
| Good Charlotte – Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this song fuckin' sucks. i hate good charlotte. this song especially. hey guys, ur rich and famous remember? ur livin' a pretty good life right now, so stop complaining. its a little hypocritical to sing about how rich people complaining pisses you off when you losers are rich and complaining as well | |
| Wheatus – Teenage Dirtbag Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song has a fun beat to listen to but seriously, you are a loser if you relate to this song haha. 1. you can't stand up for yourself. 2. you are scared to talk to girls. 3. you hated gym class (gym class was fun!) 4. you like Iron Maiden and Iron Maiden is terrible. 5. your negativity is depressing | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Murder Incorporated Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I don't think he is talking about just one person. I believe Bruce is talking in generalities about how today, violence is so normal in our society. We don't really pay attention to it too much anymore. In the song, he constantly reminds us that it is everywhere... "Now you check over your shoulder everywhere that you go...Walkin' down the street there's eyes in every shadow...Everywhere you look life's ain't got no soul...The cops reported you as just another homicide" "Murder Incorporated" makes murder look like an everyday business. It occurs SO often that it is, unfortunately, part of our everyday routine. The only lyrics that I think are weak are the first two lines. The rhyme with pillow and zero and the second line just seem corny and obvious. We know the Boss is better than that.....other than that, Bruce gets his point across with a great rock n' roll song once again! |

| Bruce Springsteen – Nothing Man Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Excellent interpretation Good OL MC. This is one of my favorite songs off the album and I wasn't even sure what it meant. It just has that sincere "Boss" tone to it. Obviously the album is 9/11 based but I still couldn't pin down the song's meaning. Thanks! | |
| Collective Soul – Better Now Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Awesome song. They should start their shows with song instead of "Counting The Days". It really has set the tone that they are back and ready to write some more good music. Therefore, I think it should be the opening song of all their shows on the "Youth" tour. Its the whole theme of the album. | |
| Collective Soul – Compliment Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I recently went to one of their concerts and before they played this song Ed Roland said that his brother, the guitarist, Dean, wrote this song. Just an intersting point. Great song. | |
| John Mellencamp – Jack and Diane Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Diane's sittin' on Jacky's lap He's got his hand between her knees Jacky say "Hey Diane lets run off Behind a shady tree" Dribble off those Bobby Brooks Let me do what I please. And Jacky Say Oh yeah life goes on Jack wants to fool around with Diane and Diane is into it because she is a little slut. |

| John Mellencamp – Rain On The Scarecrow Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think the rain on the scarecrow and the blood on the plow is just a metaphor of how the farm is ruined and he cannot create the experiences he lived through when he was younger for his own kid. Rain and blood are often used to symbolize the breakdown or death of something. And obviously a scarecrow and a plow are easily recognizable objects that any person can associate with a farm even if they have never lived on a farm. John is trying to relate his father-son story in a way that every listener of every background can understand. I also find it interesting that there are a lot of religious references like "wooden cross", "Bible in her hand", and "'Take me to the Promised Land". Overall, I think this song encorporates the feeling of helplessness and guilt for not being able to let his son experience some great parts of life the way he did when he was a child. Sad but great song. Beautifully written. |

| Creedence Clearwater Revival – Bad Moon Rising Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
ChaosFluro24: Yes, you are not the only person to hear "bathroom on the right". My mom told me that when was a kid she used to think it was that too. She believed that for years. That doesn't say much about my mom, but thats a different story. DjUve: I'm going to the John Mellencamp/John Fogerty show tonight and I'll listen for this fake lyric! |

| Journey – Don't Stop Believin' Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I'll start off by saying this is my ABSOLUTE favorite song of all time. You gotta love the piano entrance all the way to "Don't Stop Believin'"s at the end. Although these lyrics send a great message of never giving up hope or never giving up faith in something important to you, I think the true effectiveness of this song comes through the orgasmic tone. And I use the word "orgasmic" for a purpose. The whole song is one big ORGASM that leads up to the "explosion" at the end of the "Don't Stop Believin'"s as Steve Perry reaches a note that almost no one on Earth can hit (ahem, orgasm). Even throughout the song, the tone constantly builds up to another, higher, more powerful tone and sometimes even just one single note. This concept also goes along conveniently well with the emotionally driven lyrics. Each time, we as listeners wait for each of these note or tone changes. I find this true with a lot of songs and essentially I believe that is what makes up a great song that people love to sing along with (or play air guitar too) P.S. I listened to the song 3 times through for inspiration as I wrote this. Yes, I’m that addicted. |

| Journey – Lights Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| As long as we're arguing what city is by the bay... What about Boston? That what makes this song great, so many people all over the world can apply it to their own city. Great, great song. Well done, Journey...I like Steve Perry. | |
| Bruce Springsteen – Devils & Dust Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Got my finger on the trigger But I don't know who to trust I look into your eyes There's just devils and dust I've got my finger on the trigger And tonight faith just ain't enough When I look inside my heart There's just devils and dust If you take these two stanzas (1 from the beginning and 1 from the end) you can see how Bruce brings the song all together through the means of self-reflection. The song is obviously about war and the affect it has on human emotion. In the first stanza here Bruce is looking outward at others and he seems the evil and deception of Man. In the second stanza here Bruce looks inside himself and realizes that he IS what he sees. War, murder (devils and dust). He has become everything he hated by participating in this war. As chilling of a realization this is, the most moving part of the song is in this stanza: I got God on my side And I'm just trying to survive What if what you do to survive kills the things you love Fears a dangerous thing It'll turn your heart black you can trust It'll take your God filled soul Fill it with devils and dust Bruce refers to God throughout the whole song putting much weight on the spirituality and importance of faith in Man. In this stanza Bruce comes emphasizes the horrible realization that life forces upon us. “What if what you do to survive kills the things you love” is the most important part of the song. Picture holding a man at gunpoint, someone you don’t even know. You love mankind and everything about it. And know you look at yourself and you are about to kill the thing you love in order to stay alive. The man represents mankind The rest of the stanza basically says that these actions have turned you into a hypocritical, dark, evil, person in which there is no escape, unless you are willing to die. Pretty powerful stuff and I’m sure things like this happens in the chaos of war. |
