This song is clearly a reference to George Orwell's 1984, in which the citizens of the totalitarian government wheren't even allowed to have a single thought that wasn't censored. This relates where he states "in this time of free thought it'd be a shame to let it rot open up your mind and let some thought inside use your head, for what it's there for." Basically, he is saying that it's a shame that people don't use their minds in a free society like ours because if they were forced to live in a society where thought was not allowed, they'd be struggling against such a restriction. |

Actually, Metallican, it's about how when they went to Germany and they had an interview, they had a bit of cultural confusion. The interviewer asked him how popular he thought he was in Europe, and he replied, "I'm more popular than Hitler!" So, they assumed he was a fascist and caused a lot of Euro-relation problems. They're basically saying that despite the way the Europeans treated TON, it just caused them to be more rich and famous. Also, that instead of being an elitist Nazi, they don't discriminate; they hate everyone equally. |

Right on the nose. And I think it's interesting how he compares it to Jews and the Spanish Inquisition. He mentions Dr. Jekyll as wall as Mengele. Very few people know that Mengele was the Nazi doctor/scientist who did horrible experiements on the Jews during the Holocaust. Sorry about my tangent there, just a bit of history to tie it up with... |

To me, this song is about being really trendy and popular when you're younger, but when you get older no one gives a damn about you anymore. And so, as is evidenced by the last two lines, the female of this relationship is trying to keep herself young for as long as possible, even though she's "about as real as her tits." |

Okay, that really irritates me when people go out of their way to find something racist. He's just being completely honest with people about their social dependence. And I tell you, there are white people on welfare too, not just ethnic minorities. This song is OBVIOUSLY about those on welfare who don't help society and who don't try to improve themselves. There are some people who really need to be on welfare, but others are just draining the system. And he's right, if you don't pay taxes, why should you be allowed to vote? Think about it. It affects everyone. |
